Description of objectSanta Luzia is a small fishing village about 4 kms to the west of the gracious and historic town of Tavira. It lies on the Ria Formosa, a designated nature reserve which is particularly rich in bird life.The 'Ria' is a lagoon formed by a long offshore sandbank running parallel to the coast, with endless sandy beaches on the seaward side.
The house is located in the main street of Santa Luzia, only about 15 meters from the lagoon waterfront.
Location of objectThere are at least four golf courses within a short drive of the village.
There is also public transport from the village to the main local town of Tavira. Steeped in a long history starting in Neolithic times and continuing through Phoenician, Roan, Moorish and Christian periods, this is undoubtedly the most elegant town of the Eastern Algarve, with a great atmosphere and many opportunities for sight-seeing, dining out and shopping (in open and closed markets).
Faro, the capital city and main airport of the Algarve is about 35 kms. to the west of Santa Luzia, and the village is only some 25 kms from the Spanish border, where a motorway bridge crosses the River Guadiana.The motorway runs all the way to Seville (about 185 kms), making it very easy to explore the south-western part of Andalusia by car.

The land around Santa Luzia offers many opportunities for pleasant countryside walks, cycling etc.
The beaches on the offshore sandbank can be reached by a ferry service which runs from the waterfront in the village centre in high season, or by water-taxi. Alternatively, the popular Barril beach, with restaurants , sports facilities and supervised beach can be reached from a point about 1 km west along the coast, where a mini railway shuttle runs thrugh the daylight hours to and from the mainland. A footpath runs beside the railway, so it is possible to walk from Santa Luzia to Barril beach - a total distance of about 4 kms.
