Description of objectA SHORT DESCRIPTION:Situated on the hill side behind the picturesque small village of San Terenzo, the house overlooks the tract of sea comprised between Lerici and Portovenere (the so-called Gulf of Poets) and offers a magnificent view of the Palmaria and Tino isles and the blue water outside the gulf. This beautiful spot is connected to both the village centre and the sea by a 2 to 6 minutes walk or drive and is equipped with all the necessities. Designed by the architect-artist-sculptor Federico de Leonardis in the early 60s and refurbished afterwards in the late 90s with the help of his son Martino, this house is the perfect destination for whoever wants to spend a relaxing, nature-close, unforgettable holiday in one of the most appreciated and beautiful locations of Liguria. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT WEAK AND STRONG POINTS: For all those who are looking for a hotel-like type of environment: please choose something else. The house is not a hotel room. It's a private property that has been intensively used over the last 15 summers, hand-built and hand-repaired by its owners, who like to do everything by themselves. However the artist might not be a great finisher, he is certainly a very creative one ! Also, consider that the house is a country house which is not inhabited in Winter. So don't get too fuzzy if you see some spider nets, some compromised spots on the walls and floor, if some facilities are not perfectly working, or hear some creaky window or door. I can ensure that all standard surfaces will be washed and dusted. It is an old house yet clean house and very peculiar house !!! Obviously there are some things that can be improved, but from a general point of view, considering also the price per night per person, the location is definitely worth its price. therefore, I invite you all to consider all the details, even the bad ones, as part of a general and greater holiday experience... and you'll see that a very precious memory will be created !!! Now, more in detail on the strong points: Like they use to say overseas: when you are looking for a property to buy, you've got to look at 3 things: location, location, location. Well, actually the location is just perfect. The view is wonderful because you can forget about your car (that you can park inside the property) and reach Lerici and San Terenzo on foot, and many other destinations as well, including other beaches apart from the one that's found just below the house. You can travel by car or - even better - by train to the the Ligurian Riviera (from Portovenere to Portofino passing through the 5terre) as well as northern Tuscany (Carrara, Pisa, Lucca and even Florence are about 1 hour away). You are closer to La Spezia as well than if you were staying in Lerici town center. Not to mention the interiors: the house is decorated with strange objects and furnishings that give space to fantasy and imagination. It's something really special that I can't fully describe. You will keep memory of those things, we are sure, everyone does. Regardless of the drawbacks I've outlined above. You'll also be fascinated by the force of nature, which is particularly visible in Spring. Location of objectThe settings in which the house is located are at least as unique as the house itself, which is an interesting work of architecture. On one side the view towards San Terenzo, Lerici and the gulf; on the other the cliff and the view towards the open sea, Portovenere, the Palmaria and Tino Isles; and on the way to the beach (that is found at the feet of the promontory on which the house is situated and can only be reached by land through a private track) the typical Ligurean country side and the spontaneous Meditrerrean scrub.Town: Italy, Liguria, LericiSan Terenzo is a nice and populated village of very old origins. With its fortunate position, where sea and beach make one with the houses, San Terenzo has maintained intact its Ligure aspect. The castle is at the oriental extremity: a quadrangular fort of the late Middle Ages built on top of a hillock which extends itself towards the sea. The Church, which was built around 1600 over the remains of an older one, is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, celebrated on September 8th, and holds a low relief from Domenico Gar, an oil on wood of the Madonna dell’Arena from the XV century and two large paintings of Domenico Fiasella.San Terenzo is mostly known because of its famous inhabitants poets Shelley and Byron. The former lived here with his wife (author of the famous novel “Frankestein”) in the porched Villa Magni situated on the sea front. During its modern development, San Terenzo has gained a wide beach which extends itself before the multicoloured houses, a west promenade, below the rocky cliffs and the tower of the Castle as well as the promenade from “castle to castle” which connects San Terenzo to the village of Lerici.
