Town: Malta, Gozo, GharbGharb (pronounced Arb) is the oldest village on the island of Gozo and was once guarded and inhabited by the Arabics which is why the village got its name from. Gharb means west in Arabic as this village is located on the west side of the island. Gha rb got many legends including of San Dimitri, the Oil Chapel and Fungus plant family. In Gharb you will find the stunning Miraculous Basilica of Ta` Pinu and the museum of Frenc Ta` l-Gharb who was a farmer and used to heal people with herbs. Many people visit Ta` Pinu the Miraculous Basilica of Ta` Pinu and Frenc ta` l-Gharb with faith that one day they will get the grace that they want!
Gharb is located very close to the Azure Window, Inland Sea and Fungus Rock.
The religious feast of Gharb is celebrated on the 1st week of July with fireworks glittering into the dark high skies and scattered Saint Catherine wheels on the ground to throw coulorfull sparks, lit up streets for the Saint to pass from and then back into the well lit and tapestry decorated church. Band marches will take part in the feast whilst locals will throw confetti from their balconies and roof terraces. At the feast you can taste the local delicies such as the pastry cheese and peas cake, soft and hard nougat, deepfried pastry filled with dates, honey rings, macaroons, local pizza and much much more to fill up your tummy!
At the village of Gharb there are foodshops and restaurants serving pizza and local traditional food. At the village of Gharb there is also a post office and folklore museum.
