The town, built by the people of Baunei since 1950, has an ancient and mysterious name, linked to the distant history of the Middle Ages and the legend. The symbol of Santa Maria Navarrese is the medieval church that is at the center of the square, surrounded by majestic old olive trees. This church, according to The legend, was built shortly after the year 1000, by the Princess of Navarre, from the homonymous region of Spain, in honor of the Virgin to have survived the sinking of his ship.
