Town: Croatia, PULA, SvetvincenatIstria was named one of the National Geographic’s top 10 holiday destinations for 2011 and is renowned for its gastronomy (ham, cheese, truffles, olives, seafood) and vineyards, and makes the ideal base for someone wishing to have a \'foodie\' break. Also, Istria is a popular area for road cycling, golf, and indeed for most outdoor and water sports (swimming coves, sailing, windsurfing, riding, tennis, fishing, diving, for example). There is a wealth of archaeological / historical sites in the area too numerous to mention but Porec for example is home to the wondrous Euphrasian Basilica and the church of St Blaise of neighboring Vodnjan contains the largest collection of saintly relics outside of Rome. Pula’s impressive Roman amphitheater hosts open air concerts throughout the summer months, and the city boasts many other Roman buildings. One can take a boat trip from one of the nearby sea ports to Venice, or excursions to the islands and national park of Brijuni. Rovinj (featured on many tourist posters), Limski kanal (turquoise \'fjord\'), Baredine Cave (stalagmites and stalactites), Groznjan (Town of Artists), Motovun (trendy hill village), Pazin (for exploring Istria\'s interior), Umag, Rabac (swimming coves), Labin (hilltop town), Buzet (truffle capital of Istria), Opatija (former watering spot for the Austrian nobility which still retains an aura of Old Europe), Vrsar (one of Europe\'s largest naturist camps) there are no shortage of places to visit or things to do in Istria.
