Description of objectGorgeous home in a former winery with heated swimming pool and gardens in Marseillan Village itself. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and space for year-round self-indulgence amongst the orange and lemon trees.Swim in the sunlit pool, dappled by shadows of orange and lemon trees, sip a glass of a neighbour’s wine under the tiled eaves of a garden abris, or dine under the skylight of the light and airy dining room. Surrounded by terraces, gardens and olive trees, this very special house hides away in a sleepy cul de sac in Marseillan village itself. Until the start of the new millennium, this was a little family-run winery. In fact, the original vats may still be seen in the utility room. Stencilled batch numbers above the taps on the walls echo vintages of years gone by. Imaginatively converted by a witty architect into a family house, the building is cleverly designed to capture the sunshine and light of a Languedoc summer, with its atrium style dining room and mirror windows. The house still is a cool sanctuary from the heat of the day, with its strong walls, built to protect wines from noonday temperatures. The ground floor has a master bedroom and ensuite shower-room leading from the sitting room. Upstairs, three very good sized double bedrooms. Two with windows looking down into the dining area and out to the pool terrace. All four bedrooms are spacious and boast comfortable double beds, and a style to suit every taste. You may prefer traditional carved wooden furniture or a more modern image. One room boasts a grand glass fronted book case for catching upon your reading, another has a writing desk by the open window - perfect peace and quiet for updating your holiday blog. The main bathroom is designed for pampering, a proper bathtub as well as a step-up walk-in shower. Downstairs, the kitchen, with preparation space on all four sides and windows to the front lawn and patio, boasts a high-level oven and an eye-level microwave, a great hob, plenty of work spaces, a dishwasher, the essential gadgets and all you need to prepare delicious meals for family and friends. As well as an integrated fridge/freezer, there is extra cold storeage in the pantry. Outside, the summer kitchen has a tiled food preparation area with its own bread oven (perfect for home made pizzas) and gas fired plancha grill and a great abris – shelter from the summer sun, terracotta tiles roofs and an outdoor poolside lounge of chairs and recliners. A cosy sitting room with fireplace and large L shaped sofa is great for chilling out or snuggling up in front of a movie. Around the corner, the large bright sunny kitchen has a breakfast bar, with a brace of bar stools. But serve meals around 8-seater table in the lofty bright dining room, with huge glass windows, once the full height winery doors. That glass wall opens to a raised terrace above the pool area, where around another family sized table you may dine under a shady awning with the scent of ripening citrus trees. The sunken swimming pool below the dining terrace in the gardens is the true heart of the Jardin des Vignerons. Indoors, you may choose your own soundtrack, by connecting your phone or music player to the hifi or simply browse the owner\'s eclectic tastes, with a CD collection that ranges from current sounds back to the crooners and chanteuses of the past, Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg to Judy Garland and Dean Martin, Bob Dylan to reggae and jazz. There is a grand glass fronted old book case in one of the bedrooms. A full set of encyclopaedias, old fench family recipe books and stacks of hardbacks and paperbacks to help you catch up on your forgotten classroom French. Another bedroom has a desk by the window - maybe this is the holiday when you finally write your own bestseller. Downstairs is a vast stack of DVDs to work through if movies are your thing. Stay in bed til you\'ve checked out the local weather reports for the day on the TV in the master bedroom on the ground floor. Location of objectYou might be forgiven for imaging that a spacious 4 bedroom home such as this, with its swimming pool and gardens mostly shaded from street lights would be someway out of town.But in fact Le Jardin des Vignerons is in the heart of Marseillan itself. Before the war, the street was the expensive tree-lined avenue de la Gare, where wine makers would load their barrels onto trains to send their wines out to a waiting world. You may still see traces of the old station building on the long abandoned railway line close by the house. So all is less then 400 yards from the centre of the village itself, with the Marianne statue on place Republique at the top of the street and popular restaurants such as the Boulevard, Table d’Emilie and Le Glacier under 5 minutes saunter from your front door. Follow the boulevard down to the port for an evening on the quays and have a gentle amble home. Town: France, Etang de Thau, MarseillanMarseillan is a little gem - an historic Mediterranean harbour, tucked away from the brash resorts of the Med.
