Description of objectSituated in Fethiye, Villa Mare is a five minute walk from Calis Beach where there are a selection of local restaurants, shops, bars, cafes and a water park. Calis Beach is 3 km long and is famous for the stunning sunset panorama.The villas are set in attractive private walled gardens where guest can enjoy the beautiful swimming and unique free-form swimming pool. The pool area includes a water fall, fountains, sauna, Turkish bath with underwater viewing area of the swimming pool and a modern air conditioned gym. Built two years ago the classically styled villas have large balconies overlooking the pool area. All villas have fully equipped kitchens including microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The beautifully designed bathrooms feature a hydro-massage shower. The living area has Wi-Fi, a flat- screen TV with digital satellite connection, a fireplace and patio doors opening on to a large terrace, complete with BBQ. All villas are air-conditioned and have marble flooring throughout. Villa Mare is 47 km from Dalaman Airport and offers a complimentary airport transfer service. Location of objectHistoricalFethiye is located on the Lycian and Carian border and has many historical areas which are of interest to those wishing to learn more about the area from ancient times. Originally called Telmessos, the city was rich and highly cultured during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Today the majority of ancient ruins in Fethiye are rock-tombs, Lycian style sarcophagi, the fortress and the Roman Theatre. The Roman Theatre is still used occasionally to host singers, musicians and performers. Local tourist information can inform you if there is an event during your stay. Fethiye Archaeology Museum is worth a visit to see exhibits from the Lycian, Hellenistic, Roman and Ottoman periods. Geological Fethiye town is based at the hillsides of the Mount Mendos, the part of the Tourus Mountain chains. This mountain range which was called Kragos and Antikragos in the antique period forms the end of the Toros chain. Due to this rugged mountain area around the bay the panorama is breathtaking. You can be relaxing by the sea enjoying glorious weather and looking to the distant mountains you will see snow on the peaks. A popular place to see the stunning geology of Fethiye is Saklikent Gorge. Hundreds of years ago an earthquake created a gorge in the mountain, which is a huge canyon and valley being 14 km long. It is incredibly high and narrow between the mountains so if you wish to experience the beauty inside the gorge the river you will need to walk through is ice cold, even in summer. Town: Turkey, Calis, FethiyeEating out and nightlifeCalis is ideally placed to enjoy all the benefits of Fethiye, however with the advantage of being nearer to beautiful beaches and having a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Have a stroll along the boulevard or enjoy an early dinner at one of the many restaurants by the sea to enjoy the spectacular sunset over the bay. The choice of dining includes Italian, Turkish fare, Seafood, Pizza and some restaurants have English dishes as well as offering an English breakfast. A wider variety of restaurants can be found in nearby Fethiye town. Highly recommended is the fish market which is set in a courtyard, surrounded by open air restaurants. You select your seafood from the market vendors and the restaurant you’ve chosen cooks it for you. There are often musicians going from one table to another playing local music. There is a lot to see, interesting local characters and the atmosphere is good fun. If you are looking for more of a bar or club, the Paspatur area of Fethiye town has lots of bars to choose from. The narrow streets are full on an evening with people sitting outside enjoying the music. The Car Cemetery Bar is a popular night spot with both locals and holiday makers. It is a combination of bar and club. Weekly there are live local bands playing Turkish Pop music or Rock and later the dj plays dance music. There is a good selection of cocktails, both with and without alcohol which are versions of classic cocktails with car names. Nearby, is Club Mango which is popular for late night dancing. Day time activities For those who wish to unwind, the beautiful pool and private gardens of Villa Mare offer the perfect sanctuary. Later you can enjoy the Turkish bath and sauna by the pool. If you prefer to be by the sea, the beach in Calis is close by and you can sunbathe at one of the many beach bars. The beach at Calis is often a nesting ground for Turtles who come to lay their eggs in the sand. Other nearby beaches are Aksazlar Bay, Samalik Bay, Kuleli and Oludeniz. For excursions there are boat trips from Calis which go to nearby islands, Dalyan Turtle Beach, on fishing trips, Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), Saklikent Gorge, Olu Deniz Bay, Marmaris and to the Sunday market in Gocek. Shopping Fethiye town has a selection of shops including some of the larger Turkish retailers where clothes and shoes are very reasonably priced. The small boutiques are definitely worth a look as you will find more unusual one off items. The old town area is home to an eclectic mix of shops selling souvenirs, many being handmade such as jewellery, woven table cloths, ceramics and beautiful scares. There is also the Tuesday market where you can buy wonderful locally grown fruit and vegetables at a reasonable price. You will also find fake designer clothes, shoes, handbags and sunglasses.
