Description of objectLa Grotta del Papa is based in the lost village of San Pietro della Ienca in Abruzzo, at the feet of the Gran Sasso Mountain.Ancient shepherds house, La Grotta del Papa has been renovated recently with the old stones. It is composed of: - a garden running around the house - a dining room with kitchen area and fireplace - 2 bathrooms - a bedroom with wood mezanine (2 queen-size beds) - and the jewel of the house: a cave inside, where we keep and you can taste our best wines of Abruzzo and Tuscany! La Grotta del Papa is the perfect place where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday, in the hearth of an uncontaminated Nature, in the Gran Sasso National Park. From here, you can enjoy amazing hikes on the highest mountain of Appennini or visit the solitary Saint Frank\\\\\\\'s hermitages. Just few kilometres away, there is the ski resort and a horseriding school. If you are intersted in culture, you can visit the mysterious and beautiful city of L\\\\\\\'Aquila or the faboulous Castle of Rocca Calascio. But don\\\\\\\'t forget the medieval villages of Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Castel del Monte! Just some stone houses are in the village, ancient shepherds houses like La Grotta del Papa. All the houses are built around a beautiful small stone church, where, in the past, the shepherds listened the Mass on Sunday, before guiding their sheep to the high ground pastures. Today, that church has been renovated and, keeping its old shape, has become the first Pope John Paul II\\\\\\\'s Official Sanctuary, because it was the Pope Wojtyla\\\\\\\'s favourite place. In this small church, he came to find his tranquillity and inspiration.The village of San Pietro della Ienca is located just at the feet of the Gran Sasso Mountain, the highest mountain of Appennini, in the Gran Sasso National Park! From here, you can enjoy several hikes through the mountain paths, amazing landscapes, and the close ski resort.
