Description of objectThe journey back in time as you make your way to the Honeysuckle Residence is one you will never forget. From the hustle and bustle of the city you walk through the gated city walls that surround the old town of Rhodes. You make your way back through time as you walk further into this fabulous area. The small streets with centuries of history are like a labyrinth and amazing when encountered for the first time. You walk along a path of polished small stones and through arches built hundreds of years ago. These streets are not car friendly due to their size and the only traffic you encounter are scooters and other pedestrians. This property is ideally located for those wanting a quiet holiday house in the old town where you will find less tourists but still be only a few minutes to either walk to the bustling Socrates square or to get your car or a taxi to head out and explore further afield.
As you enter the Honeysuckle Residence you will be amazed by the architecture of such an unique and special property. You enter into the lounge area downstairs with its impressive stone built arches and original lime painted walls and curved ceilings. This is a lovely cool space in the summer and also a great place to simply relax and chat on a cooler evening. Here is space for two or three people to sleep on mattresses placed on the original stone built couches and sofa bed. There is a small kitchen area in the corner of this room and from here you can access the courtyard which has outdoor table and seating area, this was recently uncovered by the owners after being buried under earth for many years. from here you can enter a double bedroom and next to this there is a bathroom with shower.
From the lower lounge area you can also access the original stone stairs that lead you up to a beautiful open air, dining and seating area on the first floor. This has a partial screen of honeysuckle that gives the feeling of being in a natural room but still having the cool breeze wafting in to cool you down. From here you can enter the cute kitchen which has everything you need. to the left of the kitchen you can also access the family bathroom which has a bath with shower over and a toilet, this is also where you will find the washing machine. To the right of the kitchen is the master bedroom with its impressive iron bed and a large and impressive traditional style closet. Next to this is the door to access another double bedded room, this room is smaller but cosy and as with the master bedroom it has shuttered windows that allow you a view out onto the quiet street.
From the first floor you can take the steps up to the lower roof terrace where you will find “fat boys” to relax and also a traditional greek style wooden couch. You can then take a few more steps to the high roof terrace where you will find sun loungers and some breathtaking views of the town. From here you will be able to view the sea, the port and the snow capped mountains of Turkey. Closer to the house you will see the local architecture and beautiful stone buildings that are home to the local people who you will find to be friendly and informative.
The Honeysuckle Residence is close to the San Fransisco Church and is only a two or three minute walk from the area where taxis stand and you can park your car. You will find it to be a great base for your exploration of Rhodes and a welcoming property to return to at the end of the day. I notice that everyone who enters immediately smiles and i have lost count of the number of people who comment on what a charming and beautiful home it is. The area is home to restaurants and cafes where you will be able to find local produce and traditional cuisine and these are usually reasonably priced. The more time you spend in the old town, the more time you will want to spend in the old town, its somewhere that you want to return to again and again.
Location of objectThis fabulous property is nestled in a quiet area in `Rhodes old town away from the bars and noise. You have everything you need within a few minutes walk and nothing to interrupt you as you relax on your holiday. The old town has very few cars and they are forbidden for a large part of the day. The streets are narrow and modern cars do not fit round the corners and between some of the houses. This is a perfect location for those wanting to experience, history, culture and an authentic taste of Greek life.
Town: Greece, Rhodes, RhodesRhodes old town is quite simply amazing. You have the history of centuries around every corner and you can imagine how the town must have been hundreds of years ago. The narrow streets are paved with small pebbles and you will always see the locals living their life at a slower pace than the rest of Greece. If you have never seen this part of the world then you must make sure you take a visit soon. The old town of Rhodes is a UNESCO world heritage site and you will understand why within a few minutes.
