Description of objectCome visit Kapoho on the Eastern tip of the Big Island where you can swim and snorkel with giant sea turtles and enjoy tropical trade winds and some of the newest land on earth! This tropical home features open-beamed ceilings and panoramic tropical and ocean views. You can watch the lights from passing cruise ships at night from the lanai. This is the Best of Kapoho - you are in the gataed community so you have access to Champagne Pond, but it is just a short walk to the Wai\\\'Opae Marine Sanctuary for fabulous snorkeling! You can take a short 15 minute walk to Champagne Pond or ride our bicycles to Champagne Pond or other ocean access areas to snorkel and swim with honu. Outside in a gazebo near the house is a full-featured spa for your relaxation and enjoyment. You can barbecue in the chargcoal grill and eat outside by the spa or dine upstairs and have an ocean view.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, blender, coffee maker, range, refrigerator, and all cooking and dining needs. There is a generous living and dining area opening onto the lanai, a queen-size bed bedroom and bath. For extra guests, the second bedroom, downstairs, has two double-size beds and another full bath. And for your evenings, there is a satellite TV/VCR, a nice stereo with CD player, and an assortment of videos and CDs; and for those who would rather curl up with a book, there are lots to choose from.
Located in a quiet, oceanfront, gated community with easy accessibility to Kapoho Bay and the ocean itself, there are several calm lagoons for swimming and snorkeling. Some of the lagoons are even heated by geothermal fresh-water springs! A guide map at the house will direct you to all the best spots. Champagne Pond is a 10-15 minute walk from the home or 5 minutes by bicycle, and this home is perfectly located to walk to the Wai\\\'opae Marine Sanctuary for even more swimming and snorkeling experiences. Volcano National Park is about a 45 minute drive.
Please note that Pualani is NOT a two-unit rental! You rent the entire home whether there are two guests or four guests!!! The second bedroom and bath are in the downstairs portion of the home. There is also a \\\'rec\\\' room next to the bedroom with a sofa, chairs, dining table, and sliding glass doors to the outside and the hot tub. The bicycles are stored in this room for easy access. The main floor is upstairs to make possible the super ocean view and to better catch the tradewind breezes. This home has a very private, secluded and tropical feel to it and is located on a quiet street.
Come enjoy the Hawaii of old at this private tropical getaway!
Location of objectKapoho is a beautiful place—a peaceful and quiet place that’s perfect for those who want no part of “tourist hawaii.” We try our best to make it very clear that there are few tourist accommodations near here. We have many beautiful swimming spots on or near the ocean, a couple of sandy beaches near Hilo and a beautiful scenic drive to the other side of the island will let you discover even more of the lovely beaches on our island. In the past few years, the coquis frogs have become a bit of a problem on the Big Island. When we first purchased Pualani in 2004, there were no coqui frogs in Kapoho Beach lots, and there is an effort in the area to try to get rid of them, but they propagate very easily. They can be quite noisy at night, so earplugs for sleeping might be advisable for some people. Others may be lulled to sleep by them!
We chose Pualani in Kapoho as our vacation home for the very reason that there is very little tourist traffic here and that this is one of the last places on the islands that is still considered “real Hawaii.”
If you have already experienced “tourist Hawaii” and are ready for something different, you might like this. If you would like to feel what it would be like to be here among the folks who live here, work here, play here and raise their families here, you will find this area a true adventure. If you like hiking, snorkeling, exploring, and are looking for a real tropical get-a-way, you’ll love it.
This is rustic, rural Hawaii at its best. You can experience the most beautiful, unspoiled tropical surroundings imaginable. Languish in the naturally heated warm pond five minutes away, snorkel in the crystal clear tide pools or take a breathtaking ride down the Red Road to beautiful Kehena Beach (clothing optional) 20 minutes away. No matter what your choices are, you will be richly rewarded with taste after taste of our roads less traveled.
Pahoa, our nearest town about 8 miles away, is a funky little village of colorful people doing their thing. There are fun little shops to visit and we have some of the best offerings of restaurants on this side of the island. You will find superbly prepared Thai, Italian Tuscany style, Bueno Mexican food to name a few with funky décor, casual ambiance and a delightful surprise of wonderful cuisine. The new Kaleo’s Restaurant in Pahoa is excellent! The Malama Market at the north end of town in the new shopping center has everything you might need! The Pahoa Olympic size swimming pool is free to the public!
There is a Sunday Pahoa Farmer’s Market where you can find just about every kind of local veggie and fruit, and many prepared offerings…and if you’re in the mood, indulge in an open air massage. Every Saturday and Sunday, just north of Pahoa you will find the Maku’u Farmer’s Market which is bigger than the Pahoa Market where you will find arts, crafts, jewelry, plants, surfboards, locally hand-made items, and of course lots of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and food and drink prepared right there for you!
If you would like to venture out and explore even more of the Big Island, indulge in some trips to Volcanoes National Park, Lava Tree State Park, Waipio Valley, Hilo Town, or even a beautiful 2 ½ hour drive to Kona on the other side of the island.
We welcome you to our area of real Paradise!
