Dating back from the XVIII century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Braga and GuimarÃ£es (UNESCO World Heritage) Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the amenities of modern life.

The house old stables were converted into 3 duplex apartments, each with a double or twin bed room, 2 bathrooms with shower, a kitchenette and a living room with a double sofa bed, air-conditioning and TV.

All apartments have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, were you can relax with a glass of âVinho Verdeâ after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the âLevadaâ, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.

Cabeceiras de Basto is a lovely village from the North of the country, situated in a pleasant valley surrounded by several mountains and water courses, in an area of great natural beauty.

The village has quite ancient human occupation, and would a been a place of refugee from the Moorish invasions during the 1st century a.C.. In fact, this is a region with many vestiges of human occupancy before Christ. During the Middle Ages, Cabeceiras de Basto was also an important pilgrimage centre to the Benedictine monastery of San Miguel.

The region is characterized by its natural astonishing beauty, between the traditional green of the Minho region, combined with the arid mountain range area of TrÃ¡s-os-Montes.

Cabeceiras de Basto combines the perfect conditions for the most diversified activities. From Cabreira Mountain one has an astonishing panorama, with several species of flora and fauna as well as the several mountain villages and scenic spots like the leisure areas of Moinhos de Rei or Vinha de Mouros.

Throughout the region there are several Manor Houses, showing off the value of these lands through the centuries. Other highlights are the SÃ£o Miguel de Refojos Monastery, the Cavez Bridge or the pre-historical spot of Lameiras ChÃ£s, with several vestiges of ancient human occupancy.
