The origins are uncertain of Buccheri, as well as the name: while some do come from \"Büker\", name of a Saracen commander, others by a combination of \"Bous\" and \"Hera\", here to testify that the sacred cows grazing there Hera, still others from Arabic Bukir (breeding oxen).
The area around is rich in archaeological evidence showing the presence of man in ancient time, a series of pastoral huts, built with megalithic technique reminiscent of that presence.
