You can reach Aegina Island from Piraeus, the central port of Athens, just in 30 minutes by hydrofoil or in 1 hour by car ferry. The island of Aegina is known for its excellent climate, nature, beaches and pistachio trees. The homonym capital of the island, the city of Aegina, used to be the first capital of Greece, after the Greek War of Independence in 1821.

The road from the city of Aegina goes through forests covered by pine trees and meets the huge Monastery of Saint Nektarios, as well as the hill of the medieval town with its 365 old churches, one for every day of the year. Passing through the picturesque village of Mesagros you will find yourself at the Dorian style ancient temple of Aphaia, which overlooks for more than 2.500 years the bay of Agia Marina.
