The village was named Amaliapoli, in 1839, after Amalia, the first Queen of Contemporary Greece visited the village and was amazed by the harmony of the landscape and the sea-mountain combination, as the settlement is located on a hill. The village is near Skopelos, Alonnisos and one hour from Skiathos island. Also is located near the Mythological Mountain of Pelion, home of the Centaurs.
