The River Temo flows into the Mediterranean at Bosa Marina. A lively sea side resort in season when numerous bars, cafes and restaurants open up, it has a large, wide expanse of soft, fine sandy beach partially sheltered by the harbour walls, that lead to the imposing tower of Isola Rossa. This is open to the public in high season and sometimes houses art exhibitions.
There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, not just from the beach such as windsurfing and kite surfing, but boat hire, scuba diving excursions, boat and fishing trips.
The small train station is here where you can take the Little Green Train inland to Macomer, winding through the beautiful countryside where vineyards and olive groves can be seen. Bosa Marina Beach
This is a very long, wide strip of wonderfully soft fine sand and is the best beach in the area. Mostly protected by the harbour wall this is very safe bathing and here the beach is gently shelving. There are rocks out to sea in the middle of the beach that a make good snorkelling area. There are lifeguards here during July and August.
Town: Italy, Bosa marina, bosaThe town is set on the banks of the river Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, it is possible to go up river as far as the Romanesque church of St. Peter dating back to 1062. The origins of Bosa date back to Phoenician times of IX century B.C. but the most important mention dates back to Roman times when Bosa Vetus was near the present church of St. Peter. The Temo valley is an area of fruitful orchards, olive groves and vineyards, having once being a flood plain. Around this area the prized wine, Malvasia, is produced. This vine needs the very limey soil found around the Bosa area, the locals are justifiably proud of this delicious wine. Teamed with the local pastries it makes a treat indeed.
The old historic centre of Bosa spreads up the side of the hill away from the river and is topped by Malaspina Castle on Serraville hill. Built by the Malaspina family around 1112 to protect Bosa from frequent invasions. Inside the castle there is the small church of Regnos Altos where recent restoration works have uncovered beautiful frescos.
