Town: Serbia, Vracar, Belgrade
The city has a mish-mash of architectural styles thanks to the continuous destruction and rebuilding that has taken place over centuries. The Kalemegdan Fortress is one of the city’s best highlights. It was founded in the third century B.C. and for many centuries the whole population of the city resided within the fortress walls. One of Serbia’s main hives of outdoor pursuits is around Ada Ciganlija – a river island that was artificially turned into a peninsula. Located in the River Sava, this place is swarming with sunbathers and swimmers during the summer period. There are a number of activities to enjoy besides the decent sandy beaches – choose from kayaking, water-skiing, bungee jumping, paintballing and much more. Find out more about Belgrade
