Casa Escocia is a newly refurbished, two-bedroomed house in the village of Nuevo Bambito in the Chiriqui Highlands. The casa is in an area of natural scenic beauty and has magnificent mountainous views of Volcan Baru, which provides a majestic backdrop to the property.
This place is on the top of the world; you can almost touch the rainbows and on a clear night the stars appear to shine below you, whilst the lights of Costa Rica twinkle in the distance. The air is fresh, as is the plentiful fruit and vegetables that grow here in the ‘bread basket of Panama’.
Casa Escocia has hot water and all the facilities for self-catering; a fully equipped kitchen, with new fridge-freezer and gas cooker, an open plan living-dining area with tables, chairs and armchairs, two bedrooms each with double-beds and one with a walk-in closet, linen provided, WC with shower and a large terrace with a hammock for relaxing in the tranquil surroundings, a garden with lemon and orange trees. Cleaning services can be arranged.
Nearby in Nuevo Bambito there is a supermarket, restaurant and bar, trout farm (where you can catch your evening meal) and the Bambito Hotel (with eating/public swimming, spa facilities). The area is well served by very reasonably priced minibuses, which travel regularly between David and Guadalope. Nuevo Bambito is a 10 minute minibus ride from Volcan, with its shops, bakeries, supermarkets, tourist office where organised activities/tours can be arranged, health clinics, dentist, banks/ATM, laundry, park and numerous restaurants.
The house is close to the entrances of two of Panama’s National Parks, renowned for their bird and plant life, with numerous nature trails and horse treks into the forests, to Boquette and, for the fit, a hike up Volcan Baru (7 hours one-way) where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans can be viewed simultaneously on a clear day (seemingly). Birds are plentiful and birdwatchers come to the area, as it is one of the few places where the resplendent Quetzal can be spotted. Worth a visit is the village of Guadalope to see the beautifully tended gardens, indigenous handicrafts and Finca la Dracula, one of the top orchid farms in Central America with over 3,000 species of orchid. Cerro Punta has spectacular scenery and numerous stalls where locally grown produce can be purchased, fresh strawberry babito drinks sampled or homemade jams bought. Visits can be made to the pre-columbian site of Barilles, hot thermal springs, the marche de monte gorge and waterfalls, fishing in the lagoon or whitewater rafting in the Chiriqui rivers.
