| The Owner of 'GrandPa House' says about Sistelo |
| Sistelo, a village situated on the left side of the river Vez. This village invites us to climb up the mountain by winding paths following the footsteps of shepherds and their cattle towards the greatest altitudes. Sistelo is famous for its 'solcalcos', which arose by the need to increase the agricultural area and to counter the slopes. These structures allowed the development of subsistence agriculture of extremely importance for the survival of rural communities. You can see the 'espigueiros', a kind of granaries were built to dry the big corn crop which was introduced in the s. XVII. The villas are set in the foothills of the Peneda Geres National Park. The two houses have been recently rebuilt, keeping the original trace, but with the comfort of our days, they are set in the middle of the village near the church. |
