As with many large cities, the atmosphere can change from street-to-street and year-to-year. In paris each area has a name to describe its atmosphere, which may be good for visiting and/or residing. My favorite residing area is the \"Assemblée Nationale\" (North East 7th) but the area of the appartment, Place D\'Italie (North West 13th) is very good. In general areas to avoid are the N & NE of Paris and the \"porte de ...\" regions (boundary with the suburbs)
