The town is slightly inland from the busy beach at Simius which faces the offshore isles of Sepentera and Isola dei Cavoli. There are many quieter beaches in the area. The Marina di Villasimius lies a few km out of the town. The peninsula to the south is Capo Carbonara where a National Marine Park was created. It encompasses all the waters surrounding the headlands in the eastern Gulf of Cagliari, from Villasimius\\\' western border with Solanas, to its northern border with Castiadas. The peninsula is backed by Fortezza Vecchia dating from the 14th century.
