Description of objectSelf-contained and fully equipped, Casa Victoria is spacious and comfortable, with one double and one twin bedroom, kitchen and dining area, sitting room, WC and shower. There is also a guest patio within our colouful fully-organic garden.On finding our ruined terrace of buildings, we set out to renovate them as sympathetically and ecologically as possible. We used little cement , mainly using lime mortar. We reused as much of the wood and stone as we could - and many of the beams and rafters were brought by our builder from other derelict properties. All new wood was locally sourced chestnut and oak, and the windows and doors were all made by our local carpenter. Asturian wool insulation was used wherever possible, and we have a solar hot water panel and a carbon neutral wood pellet stove for the heating. The garden is run on totally organic principles. Our visitors can often have the opportunity to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from our plot, and to enjoy sitting amongst the bird and insect rich environment of this little bit of paradise! Location of objectCasa Victoria is a recently-renovated cottage close to the spectacular scenery of the Rio Sil canyon, surrounded by extensive vineyards and small villages that reflect the idyllic rural life of this tranquil corner of Spain. Ideally situated for beautiful scenery, ancient monastries, river trips, potteries and local crafts, Roman remains, museums and fine food and wines.Town: Spain, Ribeira Sacra, A TeixeiraCristosende is located in the heart of the vineyards of the Ribeira Sacra, a Denominacion in its own right. You can walk along the many paths passing through the vineyards, seeing people at work tending the vines on the terraces - many of which date from Roman times. There are numerous bodegas to visit where you can sample these excellent wines and make purchases if you wish.There are numerous ancient buildings, Romanesque churches and monasteries to visit, and the perfectly- preserved Roman bridge at Villarino Frio where you can almost hear the legions marching smartly across. The village of Cristosende is perched on a saddle of land that overlooks the Rio Sil - the flooded Canyon de Sil, a reservoir created in 1945 – 1965. This stunning gorge with its spectacular scenery is beautiful at any time of the year. For much of the year there is a twice daily boat cruise up part of the canyon – a highly- recommended trip. There are also facilities to hire canoes on the Sil. There is also a tourist road train that goes part of the way into the canyon and down along a vineyard road. Swimming in the Rio Sil is a lovely experience, deep water but surprisingly beautifully warm in summer. It\'s about 2 kms to the nearest access.
