Location of objectSunbeds and parasols can be rented from several beach clubs towards the eastern end of Pescoluse. They also have volleyball, tennis and football facilities. Two of the best are the Boteguita Beach Club, which offers live music almost every night during the summer, and Le Maldive Summer Club, which provides private canopied loungers on the beach.
If you’re out and about, head up towards Gallipoli (45 minutes by car). The old town - a small island connected to the mainland by a 16th Century Bridge - is a labyrinth of alleyways, churches and shops, all surrounded by the walls of a medieval castle. Walking down the town’s corridors is like a journey through the ages! The harbour which lies under the shadow of these walls supplies Gallipoli’s restaurants with excellent fish.
Town: Italy, Salento, SalveAt the very tip of Salento peninsula, which reaches like a pointed finger into the Ionian Sea, lies a long stretch of fine white sand that goes by the name of Marina di Pescoluse.
Flanked by the 16th Century towers of Pali and Vado, the beach at Pescoluse has been a favourite for Italians for some years now. And no wonder, because it boasts warm, shallow waters that are crystal clear, earning it the nickname, Le Maldive del Salento. It’s a perfect spot for children and inexperienced swimmers. Despite Pescoluse’s popularity, its sheer length (8km) ensures there’s always a place for you to chill out under the sun, although the eastern end quickly fills up in the summer.
