Description of objectSistelo, a village situated on the left side of the river Vez, in the foothills of the Peneda Geres National Park. This village invites us to climb up the mountain by winding paths following the footsteps of shepherds and their cattle towards the greatest altitudes.The houses are nicely furnished and equipped. Each has a Large dining/sitting room with log fire and 1 double sofa bed; Home cinema with full surround sound system; Flat screen TV.;Hi-Fi system, DVD player. Bath towels and bed linen included and changed weekly. Products for breakfast. Kitchen is fully fitted, oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, wash machine. Grandma house has outside eating area, with Granite BBQ and a view to mountains and River Vez. This region is a stunning undiscovered area of North of Portugal. We are ideally situated for those interested in the outdoors, with endless walks. Here you can find the best Hiking trails in Portugal. The National Park Peneda Geres is one of the greatest natural attractions of Portugal, the rare and stunning natural beauty and the ecological value and variety of wildlife (deer, wild horses, wolves, birds of prey) and flora (pine, yew, chestnut, oak and various medicinal plants). It extends from the mountains of Park, passing through the Peneda to the Spanish border. In the park are located in two important centers of pilgrimage, the Shrine of Our Lady of Peneda replica of the sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Braga, and St. Bento's Open Door, a place of great popular devotion. The Park has favorable environment conditions to keep rare species and unique in the world, as is the case of garranos wild (Equus caballus). Location of objectWe are equidistant to Porto (Oporto) airport in Portugal, or Santiago de Compostella in Galicia/Spain at 90 mins drive. The drive from Porto airport is via the A3 motorway, it is a very straightforward and well signed road.Flights are available from Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick to Porto (Portugal) and Stansted, Heathrow, to Santiago do Compostella. Also Liverpool to Porto and Santiago. Dublin to Porto. Arcos de Valdevez is about 20km with restaurants. Bars and a lot of Supermarkets and a nice river beach. Ponte de Lima an old town about 30km it is characterized by its medieval architecture and is surrounded by the River Lima. Melgaco a beautiful fortified town on the river Minho 30km. Moncao (Alvarinho Region), with three large, very modern supermarkets 22km and a wonderful public outdoor pool. Valenca the old town is a must see 35km. Vigo (60km) and Santiago de Compostela (150km). This area is characterized for its fiestas (traditional music, costumes, singing and dancing) weekly throughout the season with fantastic fireworks day and night. Fabulous markets at Vila Nova de Cerveira (Saturday), Viana Do Castelo (Friday), Caminha (Wednesday) and many others. Wonderful countryside for walking (Sunflower Northern Portugal book has numerous walks within easy driving distance). Follow the Vinho Verde wine trail along the banks of the Minho Valley which passes between undulating hills covered with the vines which produce the lightly sparkling and very tasty wine of the region. There are many places for swimming along the river Vez with crystalline waters pools in the area. The coast is about 60km away, with beautiful sandy beaches. There are stunning sandy Atlantic surfing beaches. Portugal offers the best warm surfing in Europe with over 500 miles of consistent waves and no shortage of sunshine. Huge sandy beaches offer surf school and lifeguard patrolled areas. Golf Ponte de Lima 18 hole golf course within 25 minutes drive. Visit the beautiful Santa Luzia Church on the hill overlooking Viana Do Castelo, which has view of the Atlantic coast - described as the one of the best views in the world by National Geographic. Town: Portugal, Arcos de Valdevez Peneda, SisteloSistelo, a village situated on the left side of the river Vez. This village invites us to climb up the mountain by winding paths following the footsteps of shepherds and their cattle towards the greatest altitudes.Sistelo is famous for its 'solcalcos', which arose by the need to increase the agricultural area and to counter the slopes. These structures allowed the development of subsistence agriculture of extremely importance for the survival of rural communities. You can see the "espigueiros", a kind of granaries were built to dry the big corn crop which was introduced in the s. XVII. The villas are set in the foothills of the Peneda Geres National Park. The two houses have been recently rebuilt, keeping the original trace, but with the comfort of our days, they are set in the middle of the village near the church.
