Without comfort but with lots of fresh mountain air for stressed lungs. A spring emerges a stone's throw away, the trees are full of cherries, and cheese and milk you can get from the shepherd next door. The cabin consists of an vestibule, a kitchen and a bedroom with a large raised platform bed where four people can comfortably lie next to each other. Amenities include: pots and pans, linens, coarse blankets, towels, kerosene lamps, gas bottle, bucket and wash-bowl, wood and hatchet, toilet paper, dish soap and sponge, matches, salt and sugar. You can cook on a gas burner and the stove in the kitchen or on the fireplace in front of the hut. Trade the WC for an outhouse. Trade shower and washing machine for washing with spring water. Trade sockets for kerosene lamps. Trade the fridge for a cool basement. The cabin is often not accessible by car. In general, we make the ascent with horse carts, then it takes about three hours. By mountain bike it goes twice as fast. The ascent we charge extra. In the horse cart guides you our English speaking manager Nicu. Food you can buy in shops or on the market of the small town Saliste. Once reached the top, on request, Nicu will cook a traditional pastoral goulash in the kettle over an open fire. If you travel by car, you can park it carelessly on our enclosed plot in Vale. Pick up from the airport or train station Sibiu is included. You can order interim supply. The mobile reception at the cottage itself is bad, but going up a hillside a few steps you will get it. High meadows, forested mountains and valley-glades far as the eye can see. Starting point for hikes to the mountain lake at Gura Raului and - past partly managed shelters - up into the high mountains. Lie down on a hill, chew on a blade of grass, and let the thoughts drift by ... • 2 rooms for 4 persons • Basement, barn, spring, outhouse • Wood stove, gas ring, kerosene lamps, kitchen equipment • Transfer from Sibiu airport or train station included • Available from 1. May to 20. ________________________________________________________ Location of objectSome say it looks as though time were frozen and that a great deal of things aren't perfect. The culture seems to be alien and the nature is unique and untouched. It may occur to you that this is the charm of the extraordinary before being run over by the advance of civilization. The shepherds village of Vale is located close to the European route 68/81 but still in the middle of nowhere. A tarmac road grazes the village, but in large parts there are cobblestone roads and dirt trails leading up into the hills. Here, traditional structures and lowbrow hospitality have survived and the breath of the past is perceptible everywhere. Horses, cows and goats are still part of the village landscape and the farmers take up their scythes and plant corn, potatoes and vegetables to preserve them for winter. There is a small shop in Vale. The small town of Saliste 3 km away offers more shops, restaurants and a farmers market. Whatever is missing here can be found in Sibiu 20 km away at the Zibins market, in retail stores or supermarkets such as Real, Carrefour and Lidl. The open-air Marmelada swimming pool lies just across the hill 20 minutes walk away, and so does the first of six lakes in the valley. In 10 minutes you have left the village below, passing on your ascent dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures on the Poiana Soarelui (sunny glade), to arrive at the mountain meadows with a unique view across the vastness of the Transylvanian Plain. You hike through a flora and fauna deemed to be singular in Europe. If you don't watch your step you will stumble over lizards and salamanders and have the wild boars laugh at you. Connoisseurs are attracted to the mountain lake at Gura Raului (12 km). It lies in a depression surrounded by forest and is fed by several streams. The water is clear, and in the evening you can light a fire and watch the fish jump for flies. The serenity of this place can't be captured in a single image, but whoever has been there won't easily forget it. ________________________________________________________ Town: Romania, Siebenbürgen-Transsilvanien, ValeIf you want to delve into the country's history in the face of old stonework or become acquainted with Romania and its people, you are in your right spot here.Heist and highway robbery are tales from the years following the political change and Count Dracula obviously exists only in movies. Most people in these parts are open-minded if met with respect and many of them speak English, so communication works without troubles. Scattered across the countryside are ancient fortified churches, Dacian ruins, abandoned Roman mines and caves. Every small town boasts an open market where you can buy garden vegetables, honey, sheep's cheese and sometimes herbs - wherein the tomatos of the peasant woman not only looks different than those from the supermarket, but also tastes different. The city of Sibiu, founded by German-Flemish settlers in 1150, lies just around the corner and to this day is a fountain of cultural diversity. The medieval fortifications enbrace an old town center with historic alleys and restaurants, cafés and bars, some of which are set in vaulted cellars or courtyards. During the summer the town opens up to visitors and regularly organizes events on the central Great Ring, from cabaret and theater, through open-air concerts, to exhibitions of local crafts guilds. The Traditional Village Museum on the outskirts of Sibiu also merits one or two glances. Here, centuries-old log cabins, water mills, blacksmith shops and saw mills from all over the country were reconstructed true to the original. From here it's just a stone's throw to the fortified church of Cisnadioara, one of the oldest Saxon buildings in Transylvania established in the 13th century. It stands on an almost circular mountain top above the village. After taking a walk for hours you will feel your legs. In the saltwater lakes and spas of Ocna Sibiului (25 km) you can soothe your aching bones in brine, stretch out in saltwater reading the newspaper and then coat yourself in mud. If that won't suffice, we will fix you a date with our osteopath. The way back from Sibiu leads you past Cristian (13 km). Here, another Saxon fortified church gives you an impression of how centuries ago people barricaded themselves against Mongols, Turks and Kuruc irregulars. If you are aiming really high, you can choose between two trafficable north-south passes over the Carpathians, both to visit in a day trip: • The 'Transfagarasan' – winding past steep rocks and a waterfall dozens of meters high. On the top awaits you the 'Balea' lake with a hostel and the house of ice. • The 'Transalpina' - at 2.145m the highest trafficable road across the Carpathians, sometimes even above the clouds. Created by the Romans in their campaign against the Dacians, she was forgotten in the meantime and today presents one of the untouched mountain regions in Europe. In both cases you arrive at 'Walachia', the southern part of the country, in a climate zone influenced by the Mediterranean. From here you can return through the 'Olt Valley', the only north-south route through the Carpathians, passing ancient monasteries and partly steep cliffs. Anyone who doesn't stop here must be in a real hurry. If you choose to delve deeper into the history of Romania you will hear about the Dacians. Similar to the Celts in Ireland, they are famous for their mystical traditions and particular skills. Even today the faithful flock to their places of worship, only ruins of which have survived. The last Dacians are said to have taken refuge in the 'Muntii Apuseni' (Central Carpathians, 40 km away), a sparsely populated region on the western border of Transylvania. Today however, this region is known for its caves and abandoned Roman mine tunnels, some of which run hundreds of meters through rock. Skeletons of dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters are found in their depths even today. Early birds can explore this area on a day trip. No matter which way you turn, you will experience amazing things, usually things you never expected … _________________________________________________________ .
