The train station is just two miles away ideal for day trips to Rome(150 km) a 2 hour drive or train ride, Naples(100 km) 1 hour, other day trips: Pompei (130km)Monte Cassino Abbey (40km)San Felice Circeo (50km)Amalfi Coast,Sorrento,Capri,the breathtaking and unspolied Pontine Islands (2 hour ferry boat). Town: Italy, SEA MOUNTAIN VACATION, ITRIPlaces to visit, things to do in ItriPlaces worth visiting in Itri include the Medieval Castle in which many shows are held during the summer from music to theatre and cultural events, many of them completely free. The Historical centre with the church of S. Michele Archangelo (11th Century) The fortress of Sant’Andrea and the remains of the original Appian Way. The Sanctuary of the Madonna Della Civita (picture n. 7), Itri’s patron saint, from which you can admire a breathtaking view (picture n. 11)that goes from the Gulf Of Gaeta to the Tyrrhenian Sea and the promontory of San Felice Circeo where skulls of the Neanderthal man have been found. The Museum of the Brigandage for which Itri is famous worldwide through the gestures of Fra Diavolo it’s most famous person. An 18th century real life character comparable to the legendary Robin Hood who fought against the invaders of the Kingdom of the two Sicily. Amongst the many dates to remember worth mentioning is March 19 the feast of Saint Joseph (to celebrate the coming of Spring from an ancient pagan ritual) with the lighting of bonfires in every district of the town and the tasting of Zeppole (fried doughnuts),pasta,sausage,wine. The Infiorata, floral display of Corpus Christi(late May mid June) where paintings are made with flowers(the artist draws the outline of the framework and the same comes to life with flowers cut out by hand by the local people, the climax is the passing of the procession of Corpus Domini on the floral carpet: not to be missed) The feast in honor of the Madonna Della Civita our patron saint held yearly in July (20-22) the village come alive with fairs, fireworks music (on the 21st Opera/Classic right in the main square on 22nd rock pop with popular Italian bands all free) and processions throughout the village (interesting under a religious/cultural aspect, if you decide to join you’ll be able to see the whole village as it goes in every district of the town). Still during the summer various summer fairs such as Itri Olive fair, the Tarita fair in the old town, the fair of the Boar and many more await you after your day down at the beach. Finally there are a number of Disco clubs within 2/14 km, Bowling 2 km Acquapark 1 km (water slides and pool, you can spend the day water sliding along the pool and pic-nic in a reserved area.
