Balestrate is a delightful seaside location 38 metres above sea level. It stands on a plain in the centre of the beautiful Gulf of Castellammare.
In ancient times the town was called Sicciara, from the Sicilian Siccia meaning cuttlefish, due to the abundant numbers found in its waters. Balestrate is a popular tourist destination in addition to being Sicily\\\'s second largest fishing port.
In recent years tourists from all over Europe have led local tour operators to expand the services available to visitors.

The town’s golden beach stretches for 15 km and the water is crystal clear and shallow over an extensive area, making this location an ideal destination for families with young children.
