Description of objectOn two levels. Well equipped kitchen with full size eye level oven, hob, microwave, fridge with large freezer compartment, dishwasher. Heating, small private garden with furniture, barbecue.Location of objectHere at Chez Belliveau, we offer you not just your accommodation, but a properly relaxing holiday. Chez Belliveau was once a working cognac distillery and the dwellings that used to accommodate grape pickers and vineyard workers are now comfortable two and three bedroomed cottages and farmhouses. The cognac still or alembic is all burnished copper and brass and makes a feature in our private licensed bar which is also our reception area, so you can be sure of a warm welcome after your journey to the sunny Charente Maritime. With the backdrop of this antique treasure we have the perfect ambience for tasting the fine Bordeaux wines of the region as well as the Pineau and Cognac that so many visitors enjoy.Children are particularly well catered for here with their own indoor children’s den, outdoor play area with swings, slide, sandpit etc. We have a laundry area which houses our pool table. We even provide you with books to read from our library. Our single and two storey cottages and farmhouse are safely enclosed in over an acre for you to enjoy. Surrounded by vineyards and attractive countryside, along with the woodlands, these are available for nature walks and picnics. Yet all this easily found minutes away from the Route Nationale, only 5 minutes from the nearest supermarket and 15/20 minutes from the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast. All the properties are very well-equipped with dishwasher, gas hob, mini-grill, microwave and large fridge with freezer compartment. The three bedroomed cottages have a full size eye level fitted oven. They each have their own private patio area and garden, patio furniture and barbecue. Travel cots and highchairs can be provided free of charge. We can even shop for your arrival and provide you with an introductory wine case, please ask for details. If you need to relax, it may prove difficult to tear yourself away from our large (14M x 7M), heated, floodlit swimming pool with children’s paddling pool alongside, also heated. The pools are well secured by a fence and self-closing gate, and this enclosed area has an abundance of exotic flowers and trees. We have just invested in an automatic watering system to further improve the presentation of the grass and flowers. There are sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool is available at all times during daylight hours, and we often arrange floodlit dips at night. Children under the age of 12 must be supervised at all times in the pool area. For the more active, there are walks through the woods and vineyards, cycling, windsurfing, horseriding, body-boarding, tennis and golf – the courses at Royan and Cognac are exceptional. We even have micro-lighting close by. Town: France, Royan, MeursacOur village boasts one of the finest restaurants in this region, and there are many restaurants locally some of which we can personally recommend.Close to Saujon, Meursac is halfway between Saintes and Royan, each less than 20 minutes away. The beautiful sandy beaches of the Côte de Beauté around Royan are a main feature of your holiday in this area. Ranging from the shallow estuarine beaches at Meschers to the surfing beaches of the Côte Sauvage (wild coast), the variety is there. The award winning zoo at La Palmyre boasts being the largest outdoor zoo in Europe and having been regular visitors; we can vouch for the cleanliness and well presented contented animals. The impressive Roman town of Saintes with its remarkable amphitheatre and other Roman relics has the River Charente running through it. Its elegant buildings and floral parks encourage you to return after your first visit, and the daily markets provide a lively atmosphere and all the fresh produce you can imagine. A trip on the river with lunch has been enjoyed by many of our visitors. La Rochelle is under an hour to the north with its historical buildings and fish restaurants, and in our view it is one of the most beautiful ports in France. A day spent ambling amongst the shops and buildings may even be the highlight of your holiday. The privilege of staying so close to Cognac enables you to visit the famous Cognac chateaux, an absolute must at least once. The Ile d’Oleron is about 40 minutes away and has miles of unspoilt beaches and rocky coastlines to explore. Futuroscope at Poitiers is a little further afield, but very popular or at the other extreme there are many Romanesque and Gothic churches locally for the history lover to visit. CateringCatering: Self catered (extra)Additional InformationWe live opposite the site with our three children and are always pleased to assist with advice and introduce fellow holidaymakers to each other in a convivial manner. Our alembic bar – an ideal venue for our regular wine tasting evening – also has satellite television, and leads onto a large patio area, ideal for our regular barbecue nights. Adjacent there is a very large barn converted into a children’s den and a library. Normally available are ping pong, baby football, pinball as well as English books.
