Known as the 'White City' Merida , in the early 1900's, was not only the most prosperous city in Mexico but also the world as it clamed more millionaires per capita than anywhere else in the world. The afflulence of this time can not be seen in the incredible builings that were built during this period. The famous Paseo de Montejo is a Mexican replica of the Champs Elysee in Paris.
Merida is center for arts and culture.

There is nightly music and performances in Santa Ana park beginning on Thursday night.
Merida is perfectly situcated to visit numerous Mayan ruins all within a days's drive and the emeral Gulf beaches are only a 30 minute drive.
