Description of objectChamp Giraud is a lovely Charentaise stone cottage, two and a half kilometers outside the historic village of Verteuil-sur-Charente, in the department of Charente. The region of Poitou-Charentes is the second sunniest in France and enjoys lovely long hot summers..The cottage, sleeps 4/5, (ideally either 4 adults or 2 adults and up to 3 children) and stands in an acre of land. The splashpool is in the garden in July and August for a refreshing dip. The Lounge Area In the lounge area is the large Charentaise fireplace with a woodburner and comfy seating for 5. There is a TV/video player and DVD player with a selection of videos and DVD's books and board games. The Dining Area At the other end of the lounge is the dining area with a large farmhouse table and seating for 5 people (plus a high chair if needed). On the dresser is a mini Hi-Fi system with radio, CD and tape player. The Kitchen From the dining area you go through to the well equipped kitchen, which has a gas cooker, micro-wave, fridge and washing machine and double sink unit. The Shower Room The shower room, which is downstairs, has a loo, washbasin and walk-in shower area. The Bedrooms Stairs from the lounge area lead to the 2 bedrooms with exposed beams. The twin room has a built-in cupboard for clothes and storage. There is a cupboard on the landing for clothes and storage for the double room. Both rooms and the landing are carpeted. Outside Champ Giraud is set in an acre of land which is mainly grass with an area of young trees to one side. Outside the front of the cottage is a patio and a terrace runs along the side of the house. There is a garden table, chairs and a parasol on each area and a gas barbeque for outdoor eating. Outdoor games (tennis, badminton, football, boules etc) are provided or if that is too energetic for you, enjoy a quiet time sitting and watching birds and wildlife. In July and August the splashpool is in the garden for you to take a refreshing dip. Relax outside with a glass of local wine on a warm summer evening and look at the spectacular night skies. Due to no light pollution over the area you can see the stars in their thousands. The sunrise is worth getting up for too! Location of objectRuffec is a pretty market town 5km from Verteuil. There is a chateau and an ancient church. There are large supermarkets and a good selection of general shops and a choice of bars and brasseries.Lakes in Charente are popular for swimming. Sandy beaches with gradual slopes into the warm waters make these an excellent place for children. Some have sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and pedalos. Town: France, Poitou Charente, Verteuil-sur-CharenteThe chateau in Verteuil, with it's fairytale turrets, towers over the village. Spend a morning strolling around the narrow streets of the village and along the river by the mill, have an early evening drink in the Dixie Bar. Hotel La Paloma has a nice restaurant and a terrace for outside dining on warm summer evenings.Visit the church and cemetery and take a riverside walk. There are lots of quiet roads and lanes around the cottage and the village for you to drive, cycle or walk along. Air de Rejallant is only 5 kilometres away, where you can bathe in the river, hire a canoe, have a picnic or enjoy lunch/dinner in the bar/restaurant beside the river.
