Description of objectThe chateau is totally private with its own private pool and grounds, and is not overlooked from any angle. Loaded with rustic charm and boasting many quirky features, to include a “museum” area, this is a popular rental all year round.Enjoy a relaxing holiday in this beautifully restored genuine French XIX Century Chateau. Built in 1848 and offering comfortable accommodation within its very own private walled grounds. Many of the same guests come back year after year – so we think you’ll like it!2nd shower room with WC The living area with the green sofas is a second living room on the top floor, ideal for children to play or hang out. The main living room is on the ground floor. This most attractive property has received lots of good reviews, the Livret d’Or & Belle Demeures awards and has been fully approved by the Tourist Board, Sawday, James Villas, Trip Advisor and others. It is a most interesting place with a wealth of history behind it. Linen and towels are provided by the housekeeper @ 18 Euros pp; we assume this is required unless you say to the contrary. The price includes all bedding and towels, tea towels, bath mats, pool towels and the beds will be made. Cot(s) and high chair(s) also available from the housekeeper. We charge only £60 for the cleaner to come in on the day of your departure, and this charge pre-supposes normal every day cleaning. We take £380 against breakages/damages, and this will be returned to you within a day or two of departure. We take up top 12 people in the Chateau with a supplement for up to 2 extra people. The Chateau will sleep more but we find it creates too much wear and tear. The number of people must be clearly marked on your booking form. We love pets and usually accept them, but some people are allergic to them, so we sometimes hesitate. Do please enquire! You can also make arrangements for WiFi, final clean*, (a cleaner is included once during the week), cook, babysitter etc. Location of objectThe chateau is totally private with its own private pool and grounds, and is not overlooked from any angle. One of Europe\\\'s best kept secrets is the excellent spring and autumn climate in this area. This is rural France where you can enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the Cote Sauvage pine forests, islands and miles of beach all the while being within easy access of lively seaside resorts and big shopping centres. La Rochelle is probably the most famous town in this area, along with Fort Boyard where the TV games are held. The Roman town of Saintes is well worth a visit (stunning amphitheatre among other things) and the old military town of Rochefort with its famous fortifications is nearby. Royan is a relatively new town, having been blitzed during World War II, but nonetheless boasts miles of sandy beach and lots of restaurants. Visit the markets, chateaux, picturesque rivers, taste the local wines and eat at a wealth of seafood restaurants. Sporting opportunities are also abundant with cycling, golf, diving and other water sports. Swimming is ideal for young children as the coast is protected by the island; alternatively there are several surfing beaches within a short drive of the properties. Out of peak season we do organized cycling and/or wine-tasting parties. There is an excellent zoo at La Palmyre and the aquarium at La Rochelle is wonderful. Surfing Massive surfing opportunities all year round with 6 foot waves crashing on the sandy beaches on the island of Oleron 25 minutes away and La Cote Sauvage 35 minutes away. Golf There are numerous golf courses in the area such as ‘Le Golf de Royan’ and ‘Golf pays Rochefortais’ offering year round drives, approaches, chips and putts. Sailing There are plenty of charming ports and marinas for you to choose from such as Saint martin en re on the island of ile de re, Royan, rochefort and la Rochelle all offer excellent mooring facilities to suit even the highest of requirements. The local town of marrennes offers sailing schools for both beginners and experienced sailors. Race along the miles of undisturbed beaches at neck breaking speed on a adrenalin pumping sail buggy or clip the waves on a 2 man catamaran. Rock climbing There is a number of rock climbing sites in the area to include Le Gros Roc just out side of St Viaze near Saintes, The Falaise de Soute near Pons and the untouched cliffs of Bonpart near Angouleme Horse riding: The equestrian activities in the area are plentiful. Weather you are looking for quite walks through the pine forests or a full gallop along the beach the choice is there.
