Description of objectDating back to the final years of the 19th century and reconstructed along classical lines by renowned Viennese architect Carl Siedl in 1924, the villa has welcomed a constant stream of royalty, leaders of men and arbiters of taste over its life, including various Habsburgs, assorted Kennedys and Coco Chanel. The level of service has remained reassuringly old fashioned and the hotel continues to be a venue of choice in Opatija, if not the entire region, for exclusive weddings, cocktail parties and business meetings.A red carpet lines the stone steps leading up to the first floor, past an original 17th century old master. A rather grand dark wooden balustraded landings runs the length of the villa and there is a suite and a junior suite on this floor. The remaining guest rooms are located on the second floor in the eaves. The supremely comfortable rooms are equipped with all modern conveniences including air-conditioning, satellite TV and a hairdryer in the smart, tiled bathroom. Breakfast can be taken on the terrace along with the restful views of the Gulf of Kvarner though the tall cypress and pine trees. The 13-kilometre-long stretch of promenade passes by the base of the grounds and there is even a small swimming platform on the rocks below. Keen strollers can wander along to the centre of Opatija past the resort's marina, a 15-20-minute walk away, or along Icici and Lovran in the opposite direction. Set just down from the coastal road on the very edge of Opatija, the hotel has its own car park. Accommodation consists of: 1. The president suite has a bedroom, bathroom and living room, all together cca 68 m2, at the first floor of the villa, and has wonderful views of the sea from the big balcony. 2. The Junior suite (ca 35 m2). This suite is also on the first floor and has a balcony and wonderful sea views too. 3. Six double rooms on the second floor (20 m2) - without balcony or sea views 4. Two single rooms, each of them cca 15 m2 All rooms have TV, air conditioning, telephone, minibar and safe. Opatija was so attractive that, at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, it was visited by the then most prominent personalities of the noble rank - Princess Luise von Sachsen Coburg, the Romanian King Charles I, the Swedish-Norwegian King Oscar and many others. Tourist development is Opatija's main feature even today. Favourable climate, well-maintained landscape, maintained beaches and lively entertainment throughout the year make this place one of the most elite summer resorts in Croatia today. The offer includes 20-odd hotels, a large number of catering establishments, sports and recreational facilities, and especially entertainment opportunities. A marina is open throughout the year. Many events in Opatija have a long tradition and offer a high-level entertainment such as: Carnival (January/February), International Yachting Regatta (in May), the Opatija Yachting Cup (in November). Opatija is also a national centre in which Porin, the prize for the best musical pieces is awarded (in March), as well as one of the most important congress centres in Croatia.
