Changeover day is on a Thursday to take advantage of cheaper mid week travel costs. Also the roads are far less busy on these days in high season. With check-in at 4pm there is time to nip to the shops if you want to. Arriving on a Thursday means that you can go to the wonderful market at Riberac on Friday. This is a lovely day out as you can return via Aubeterre ( officially one of the prettiest villages in France) where you can lunch in the village square and then visit the monolithic church ( a must ). You can then take a canoe up the river if you're feeling energetic. There is a file in the house containing masses of information on things to see and do and ideas for days out. Guests are invited to make recommendations for others.
The property is unsuitable for children under 5 years as the pool is directly outside the sitting room and is unfenced. Although the house is all on one level, making it suitable for those with mobility difficulties there are a few steps (at most 3) where the level changes slightly
Location of objectThe farmhouse is only an hour from Bordeaux and from the pine backed, sandy beaches of the Atlantic which are very popular with surfers.Close to the Dordogne border, all the delights that can be found there are readily available. Forty minutes away is Cognac where you can see the manufacturing processes at first hand - and taste a few samples! The beautiful town of St Emilion is under an hour away; where a few more samples can be had. Medieval Angouleme is another place well worth a visit, as are the roman ruins in Saintes. The famous theme park Futuroscope is approximately an hour and a half away. Vignes des Perches provides a relaxing and comfortable base for a holiday that will provide plenty of variety for young and old alike whatever their interests.
Town: France, dogdorgne, hhhhVignes des Perches is a spacious traditional farmhouse set in two acres with its own pool. Panoramic views of beautiful undulating countryside surround the house, which is situated at the end of a hamlet on a hill. While enjoying a peaceful and secluded position off a dead-end lane, the house is only five minutes away from the small town of Brossac. This is a lovely traditional town perched on top of a hill, dominated by its romanesque church. An enjoyable evening can be spent sitting outside the restaurant in the church square watching the swifts fly round the shuttered houses. All the shops you could need, for day to day living, are to be found here and there is also a tourist information centre. Just outside town there is a leisure lake with a swimming beach and small playground. Nestled in the trees, overlooking the lake, a restaurant provides refreshment when tired. A little further away, Chalais has a large supermarket and a wonderful weekly market.
