••• CASA CRINA •••

The rustic icing of the resort with 200 m² of living space and high-quality equipment for special requirements. We constructed the holiday home from scratch on the layout of an abandoned farm's barn.

The accommodation offers spacious, light-flooded rooms. The 50m² large living room with oak parquet floors is accessible from the courtyard or the garden side porch. It includes the kitchen, a wood burning fireplace and seating for 18 persons. Also located on the mezzanine floor is a sanitary room with washing machine, dryer and toilet.
The fully equipped kitchen makes cooking a breeze. It contains a great fridge combo, dishwasher, gas stove, coffee maker and espresso mashine, microwave, toaster, kettle, spices and more. If you want to take a break, we will cook traditional menus or provide you with farm products from the village.

There is an outside and an inside staircase leading up to the four bright rooms (15 -18m²) in the attic. They are furnished with a double bed, private bathroom, TV set (Astra satellite) and an infrared panel. The outlook is reassuring: up to the village church and over the lush green of forested mountains. On arrival you'll find the beds freshly made. Hand and bath towels, shower gel and soap are also provided.
The living room opens out onto a spacious south-facing veranda (30m²) with 20 seats. Stairs lead down from here to the enclosed garden bordered by a creek.
We laid out the garden in three terraces: on the top level, there is a stonewalled barbeque, in the middle a small lawn, and the bottom level accommodates up to three cars. The total garden area is grown with flowers, various fruit trees and wine.

The entire interior of the house was chosen with care and is fairly new, including kitchen and sanitation facilities, mattresses and laundry. All furniture, windows, doors and stairs where consistently made to measure.
The solar-assisted central heating is backed up threefold. Either you fire up the water-bearing fireplace in the living, which supplies all the radiators in the house, or an automatic control takes over the job and starts a gas heater and / or the electrical infrared panels at no additional costs for you.

The accommodation lies on a slope in the loosely built part of the village, facing towards wooded mountains. Leaving the garden behind and following the course of the creek for a few meters, you already find yourself on the way up to the mountain meadows surrounded by a healthy mixed forest.

• For up to 8 persons
• 4 rooms with private bathroom
• Large living room with eat-in kitchen and fireplace
• Sanitary room with washing machine, dryer and WC
• South-facing terrace
• Fenced garden with barbecue and parking lot
• Minimum stay: 3 or 5 nights (seasonal)
• Rates: Euro 83 - 126
• Discount from day 15

••• We offer more than just private accomodation •••

• The transfer from Sibiu airport or train station is free and, on request, we provide a cheap rental car.

• On request, our cook will provide you with breakfast or swing the wooden spoon. She conjures traditional menus fresh to the table to pre-arranged times. Also farm products from the village are available, such as: fresh milk straight from the udder, goat or sheep's cheese, forest honey and homemade jam, Zakusca, canned vegetables, wine and schnapps. Please request our offers and price list.

• On request: UMTS stick (mobile internet connection) with or without a laptop, phone, shopping prior to your arrival, osteopathic treatment, riding horse, cot, rides in a donkey cart for children.

• Tip: trip to our shepherds hut (Cozo Fantu) in the high meadows. Without comfort but with lots of fresh mountain air for stressed lungs. A source emerges a stone's throw away, the cherries hanging in the trees, and cheese and milk you can get from the shepherd next door. Rise in horse cart and traditional shepherds stew on request.

We aren't studied tourism experts. We live in Vale and have joined together in a small and family-type construction company. By this company, we have given five houses a complete overhaul or constructed them from scratch. With attention to detail all along, with respect to the traditional style of the area, but also with a view to modern building materials and contemporary housing needs. The result is the encounter of different ages and cultures in five oasis of wellbeing, each of them with their own flair, distinctive and special in a place which – we hope – will be sidestepped by the world's hustle for a long time to come.
After eight years of work - with many possibilities for creative design - we put trowels and planing aside for a while and breathe a sigh.
Of the income of the vacation rentals (your money) on the one hand the 'investor' is served. On the other hand, the administration allows two families an extra income. When we cook for you, if you order local products or plan a trip in a horse cart, other villagers have a benefit. Finally, we are planning a soup kitchen for the less well-off families in the village, which also will be financed from the proceeds of the accomodations.
We foster a climate of openness and equality-based relationships.

Location of object

Some say it looks as though time were frozen and that a great deal of things aren't perfect. The culture seems to be alien and the nature is unique and untouched. It may occur to you that this is the charm of the extraordinary before being run over by the advance of civilization.

The shepherds village of Vale is located close to the European route 68/81 but still in the middle of nowhere. A tarmac road grazes the village, but in large parts there are cobblestone roads and dirt trails leading up into the hills. Here, traditional structures and lowbrow hospitality have survived and the breath of the past is perceptible everywhere. Horses, cows and goats are still part of the village landscape and the farmers take up their scythes and plant corn, potatoes and vegetables to preserve them for winter.
There is a small shop in Vale. The small town of Saliste 3 km away offers more shops, restaurants and a farmers market. Whatever is missing here can be found in Sibiu 20 km away at the Zibins market, in retail stores or supermarkets such as Real, Carrefour and Lidl.

The open-air Marmelada swimming pool lies just across the hill 20 minutes walk away, and so does the first of six lakes in the valley. In 10 minutes you have left the village below, passing on your ascent dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures on the Poiana Soarelui (sunny glade), to arrive at the mountain meadows with a unique view across the vastness of the Transylvanian Plain. You hike through a flora and fauna deemed to be singular in Europe. If you don't watch your step you will stumble over lizards and salamanders and have the wild boars laugh at you.

Connoisseurs are attracted to the mountain lake at Gura Raului (12 km). It lies in a depression surrounded by forest and is fed by several streams. The water is clear, and in the evening you can light a fire and watch the fish jump for flies. The serenity of this place can't be captured in a single image, but whoever has been there won't easily forget it.

Town: Romania, Transsilvanien, Sibiu, Vale

If you want to delve into the country's history in the face of old stonework or become acquainted with Romania and its people, you are in your right spot here.
Heist and highway robbery are tales from the years following the political change and Count Dracula obviously exists only in movies. Most people in these parts are open-minded if met with respect and many of them speak English, so communication works without troubles.

Scattered across the countryside are ancient fortified churches, Dacian ruins, abandoned Roman mines and caves. Every small town boasts an open market where you can buy garden vegetables, honey, sheep's cheese and sometimes herbs - wherein the tomatos of the peasant woman not only looks different than those from the supermarket, but also tastes different.

The city of Sibiu, founded by German-Flemish settlers in 1150, lies just around the corner and to this day is a fountain of cultural diversity. The medieval fortifications enbrace an old town center with historic alleys and restaurants, cafés and bars, some of which are set in vaulted cellars or courtyards. During the summer the town opens up to visitors and regularly organizes events on the central Great Ring, from cabaret and theater, through open-air concerts, to exhibitions of local crafts guilds.
The Traditional Village Museum on the outskirts of Sibiu also merits one or two glances. Here, centuries-old log cabins, water mills, blacksmith shops and saw mills from all over the country were reconstructed true to the original.
From here it's just a stone's throw to the fortified church of Cisnadioara, one of the oldest Saxon buildings in Transylvania established in the 13th century. It stands on an almost circular mountain top above the village.

After taking a walk for hours you will feel your legs. In the saltwater lakes and spas of Ocna Sibiului (25 km) you can soothe your aching bones in brine, stretch out in saltwater reading the newspaper and then coat yourself in mud. If that won't suffice, we will fix you a date with our osteopath.
The way back from Sibiu leads you past Cristian (13 km). Here, another Saxon fortified church gives you an impression of how centuries ago people barricaded themselves against Mongols, Turks and Kuruc irregulars.

If you are aiming really high, you can choose between two trafficable north-south passes over the Carpathians, both to visit in a day trip:
• The 'Transfagarasan' – winding past steep rocks and a waterfall dozens of meters high. On the top awaits you the 'Balea' lake with a hostel and the house of ice.
• The 'Transalpina' - at 2.145m the highest trafficable road across the Carpathians, sometimes even above the clouds. Created by the Romans in their campaign against the Dacians, she was forgotten in the meantime and today presents one of the untouched mountain regions in Europe.
In both cases you arrive at 'Walachia', the southern part of the country, in a climate zone influenced by the Mediterranean. From here you can return through the 'Olt Valley', the only north-south route through the Carpathians, passing ancient monasteries and partly steep cliffs. Anyone who doesn't stop here must be in a real hurry.

If you choose to delve deeper into the history of Romania you will hear about the Dacians. Similar to the Celts in Ireland, they are famous for their mystical traditions and particular skills. Even today the faithful flock to their places of worship, only ruins of which have survived. The last Dacians are said to have taken refuge in the 'Muntii Apuseni' (Central Carpathians, 40 km away), a sparsely populated region on the western border of Transylvania.
Today however, this region is known for its caves and abandoned Roman mine tunnels, some of which run hundreds of meters through rock. Skeletons of dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters are found in their depths even today. Early birds can explore this area on a day trip.

No matter which way you turn, you will experience amazing things, usually things you never expected …
