The beach is one of the most beautiful in Costa Rica and the village and surrounding area are still genuine and not spoilt by mass tourism. Our house, Casa Sevana, is located in a very quiet and green area of the small village of Carrillo, just minutes on foot from the beach, restaurants and grocery stores. It sits on a bluff overlooking Carrillo Bay and Cape and the Pacific Ocean. Location of objectTHE HOUSEThe house is brand new (finished in December 2007), modern and designed by the architect/owner, with much attention to detail and an emphasis on the use of local hardwood in ceilings, furniture and cabinets, built by a master carpenter. It has two floors, each with a large terrace, and a floorplan that opens up towards the view, which can be enjoyed from all of the rooms. The ground floor has a large entrance, two bedrooms, a full bathroom and a laundry room. The main bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the second bedroom has two single beds. Each bedroom is equipped with A/C and has large sliding glass doors that give access to the terrace, the swimming pool and the ocean view beyond. The open and spacious second floor – with 14’ teak cathedral ceilings, natural ventilation and ceiling fans – has a fully equipped kitchen that opens to the airy dinning/living space and the upper terrace, where you have an even better view. Here you can enjoy breakfast while watching a multitude of colorful tropical birds fly past, catch a family of howler monkeys swinging by in the tree crowns below or simply relax in the evening as the sun sets over the cape. On this level there is also the third bedroom, with a single bed and A/C, and the second full bathroom. The house is furnished with attractive contemporary furniture. It is equipped with TVs, iPod dock, CD player, phones, internet connection (using your own laptop), safes for valuables, washer, dryer and generous closet, drawer and desk spaces. All the linens, bath and beach towels are included. The kitchen offers a dishwasher, oven, microwave, cook top stove and refrigerator. The sparkling pool allows you to cool off or even swim laps. It is 25 feet long and the depth is between 4 and 6 feet (to keep in mind if you have small children). The garden also has an outdoor shower, a large lawn area and lots of flowers and trees, offering color and privacy by the pool. The property is fully fenced and has parking space for two cars. Town: Costa Rica, Samara / Playa Carrillo, Playa CarrilloTHE BEACH, THE VILLAGE AND BEYONDThe fabulous beach of Playa Carrillo is unspoiled with no buildings in sight, white sand, clear and calm water as well as palm trees that offer welcomed shade. The bay is protected by a reef and is perfect for kids. There is good snorkeling next to the cape dividing the Carrillo and the Sámara Bays. The village of Carrillo, with its mixed population of locals and expatriates, offers basic food shopping, restaurants and even a small zoo. Here, you can take long walks along the beach, hike in the nearby mango plantations, go sport fishing or horseback riding up the hills. In Sámara – 4 miles away – you can surf the waves of the bay or go on a canopy tour. There are also more shops and restaurants as well as banks, internet cafés, car rental, some nightlife and – if needed – a doctor or a dentist. If you feel ambitious, you can also sign up for Spanish classes at the excellent language school in Sámara. It is convenient to rent a car, but it is possible to manage without one. There are taxis, local buses several times a day to Sámara and the larger town of Nicoya, daily buses to San José but also bus links to several major tourist destinations. Within walking distance from the house is the Sámara/Carrillo airstrip with daily planes to and from the San José area.
