Description of objectCabana Marina is situated at 600m of altitude, under the mountains of Fargas. It is a beautiful unspoilt piece of the world, perfect for those who enjoy nature, high in the snow-caped Carpatos mountain range. The altitude is never lower than 2000m except in the outermost parts. For those who love the outdoors, Cabana Marina is perfect all year round, ( although it is advisable only for experienced climbers during the winter period).Marina Cabin accommodates from 8 up to 9 people. It is a semi-detached house and it consists of two duplex. Each one has an independent entrance and is composed by a dining room with a kitchenette, fully equipped with different amenities (washer, dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer ,etc.). Bathroom with shower. On the first floor, there are four bedrooms with double beds. Garden with BBQ, an arbor and a table that seats up to 20, and a wooden swing. ººººNOTE: Marina Cabin can be partially or fully rented. Rooms cannot be rented separately. Location of objectNEAR TO CABANA MARINAThe cabin is strategically situated near to the central point where various excursions and cultural visits can be organised from, such as exploring the mountains, visiting local places of cultural interest and historical sites, giving you the chance to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Romanian countryside. We can help you to organize activities such as guided tours on horseback, fishing, hunting, climbing, hillwalking , observation of fauna and flora, etc. We can also organize exciting trips to places such as the glacier lake Bàlea (15 km from the cabin), situated at 2040m altitude, 360m long and 11,35m depth. In the summer you can get there by car, during the winter period it is necessary to travel by cable car, passing over the top of the beautiful waterfall Bálea, which is situated 1234m altitude, with a fall of 50-60 m. In the winter the waterfall freezes and it is a great place for ice-climbing. This area is also known for the construction of the first eastern European ice-hotel and it´s risk sports, such as free skiing and snowboarding. During the summer, between July and October, the famous Transfargasan pass can be travelled by car, it is the pass between Transilvania and Valaquia, with the longitude of 92km. This journey is a real adventure and not for the faint hearted, because of the hairpin bends. At the end of the journey it is possible to visit lake Vidraru, one of the biggest lakes in Europe. It is also possible to visit castle Poenari (4 km away from lake Vidraru), built on a mountain and only accessible by climbing the 1480 steps which lead up to it. The castle was the second residence of Vlad Tepes (Dracula), today it is a ruin. Peak Moldoveanu (Varful Moldoveanu), at 2544m, is the highest mountain in Romania, it is situated in the Fagaras meridian mountain range. The paths most commonly used to reach Moldoveanu are over the view crest VISTEA (2527m peak), paths which start at Podrgu, Sambata or in the valley of views. The second highest peak in Romania in peak Negoiu (2534m), which can be climbed from our cabin, passing through the marble quarry, taking between 4-5 hours. The same mountain also has the Goulul Alpin mountain natural park, with a surface of 7000 ha, glacier lakes and wild animals, such as black goats, wolfs, deer, bears and wild boar. SIBIU The city of Sibiu is 35km away from the cabin, it is one of the most visited regions in Romania, with some of the most well preserved historical sites in the country. The medieval fortresses have been maintained in excellent condition. One of the most interesting places to visit is the Brukenthal Art gallery, it is the second most important museum in Romania and has more than 1.100 works of art, most of which are Renaissance and Baroque, Italian and Flamenco. Sibiu is a beautiful city, with pastel coloured houses. The old town is a fascinating place for losing yourself in it´s charm, strolling round the centre , visiting the traditional squares in the old walled part of the city, next to the river Cibin. Sibiu takes us back to old medieval central Europe, making it hard to believe you´re not in XX1 century. The city has a German feel to it, there are lots of Gothic and Baroque towers, which co-exist in perfect harmony with the Baroque palaces and residences, making a unique atmosphere. Ocna sibiului can be found 15 km outside Sibiu, it´s a small community, well known for its thermal treatments and salt lakes ( which are so salty they can be walked upon , although it´s advisable to wear swimming gear). Paltinis The ski resort of Paltinis is 35 km outside Sibiu, in the mountains of Cindrel, at 1450 m of altitude, it is the highest ski station in Romania and was founded in the XV century. The snow is excellent, up to six months of the year, for winter sports, making Paltinis a fantastic tourist destination. Sighisoara Sighisoara is situated 90km outside Sibiu, it´s a Romanian city in the historic Transilvanian region, next to the river Tarnava. Sighisoara is a beautiful city, known for the house (now a restaurant) , where Vlad Tepes (Dracula) grew up. The tourists who visit Sighisoara find themselves transported to a medieval Romania, it was declared by the UNESCO HUMAN PATRIMONY OF 1999, as one of the few habitated medieval cities conserved in Europe. Brasov Brasov is situated in the south east historical region of Transilvania, in the centre of the country, 110 km from the cabin where the depression point of the Brasov meets with the Carpatos mountains, which are dominated by mount Tampa, 957m high. Brasov was founded in 1211 by the Tudors, it has an amazing variation of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The black cathedral is one of the most prominent buildings, characterising the Gothic style of the city, it was named the black cathedral after it was set fire to by Austrian invaders in 1689. Today it is considered one of the most important religious monuments in the country, it can be found in the old part of the town, and can be visited , as long as the Sunday mass is respected. Another important religious temple worth visiting is the church of Saint Nicolae, situated in the west of the city, like the Black Cathedral it is gothic style, although some of the renovations are Baroque. Sinaia Sinaia is situated in the provence of Prahova, 45km outside Brasov and 121 km from Bucarest. It is one of the most important tourist destinations, known for its mineral water treatments. The average temperature is 6ºC. It is possible, for those who love winter sports, to travel 2000m up the mountain by cable car. Another interesting place to visit is Castle Peles, it is considered to be one of the most beautiful Renaissance period architectural works of art in Europe. It was ordered to be built by King Carlos 1st in 1873. The castle is elegantly designed and hosts a range of European artefacts such as German coloured glass-works, leather covered walls from Cordoba, marble sculptures and authentic porcelain artefacts. Castle Peles has 160 bedrooms. The nearby Castle Pelisor was constructed by King Ferdinand, it hosts 70 bedrooms, and was used as his summer residence. Castle Pelisor was the first European Castle to have electricity. This was possible because it produced its own electricity using hydro electric power from a nearby river. Castle Bran Castle Bran is situated 5km outside of Sinaia, it was constructed on a rock face in 1377, to protect the surrounding area, including the city of Brasov, from invasions. It is strategically placed between Transilvania and Valaquia, known as Dracula´s castle, and was the inspiration for the novel Count Dracula. The rooms and towers encircle a small patio, some of the rooms have underground tunnels which lead to the patio. In 1920 the habitants of Brasov, who owned the Castle, offered it as a gift to Queen Maria of Romania, she later converted it into her main residence. The Castle has a collection of objects and furniture from that time. The Castle dominates the picturesque village of Bran, and has amazing views. It is also possible to visit the open air museum at the base of the Castle, where many objects of interest such as typical period clothing, tools and rural houses can be explored. There is a small souvenir market for those who are interested. It is open to visit : June to September, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10am and 4pm. : October to May on Wednesdays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm. There are still many villages where people work the land using traditional animals such as horse drawn carts. There are many historical medieval villages which mix the art and culture of three different civilizations (Romania, Hungarian and Saxon). The architecture, artisan works and traditional dishes represent a culture which is very much alive and unique. Those who visit Romania admire the details, such as the sculpted wooden doors of churches, traditional clothing and the beautiful simplicity of the popular art Transilvania is a region, in central Romania, famous for its mountains, forests, valleys and castles ( such as the castle where Count Dracula lived), and of course for the medieval cities such as Sighisoara, Sibiu and Brasov. Romania is a country worthwhile visiting at any time of the year, for its culture and beauty. GASTRONOMY The Romanians love to give hospitality and to enjoy exquisite food. Romanian gastronomy has been influenced over time by Slavacian and Oriental cooking, after many years of surviving on a simple robust diet. The local farms produce all kinds of lentils for cooking. In some regions, the locals use corn to prepare corn flour. The typical bread is often made with cornflour, it´s made with cornflour, white cheese , eggs and cream. In Romania ,the typical meal begins with an appetizer, presentation is very important, the food is ornamental and delicious Dishes such as stuffed tomatoes, peppers, olives, cheese, pate and smoked bacon are very popular. This is often followed by soup ( depending on the region), Transilvania is known for the use of lentils, other regions such as Moldavia and Valaquia make a brew using a sour liquid which is prepared in a ceramic dish and is believed to increase appetite. The Delta region is known for it´s fish soup which is made using various different spices. The most famous Romanian dish is ¨Sarmale¨, it can be found throughout Romania. It is prepared using mince meat mixed with rice, and then wrapped in cabbage leafs, this is accompanied with´marmaliga¨, which is a dish made with a very refined cornflour. There are lots of different types of cheese, and most of the typical dishes are served with ream. The most popular cheese is white cheese made in the Balcánica region. Oriental influences are especially frequent in the Dobrogea region and in Valaquia, where meat balls and spring rolls are served using garlic and spices, these are normally cooked on a wood fire and are known as ´´mici o mititei``, they are usually served with mustard. During the Christmas period the most typical food is pork based, at Easter time lamb is typical. Romania is also popular for its sweet dishes, cakes, pastries and sweet breads. Because Romania has a lot of hills it´s a great place to cultivate both red and white wine. The most well known wine, which is best served with red meat or cheese, is a red wine from the region Murfatlar. The white wines are generally dessert wines, because they are sweet. They have been well known since the time Stefan the great ruled the kingdom. The typical Romanian drink is known as tuica (tsuíca), it is similar to tequilla , made with plums, it varies very much in strength and flavour depending on the region ( in Transilvania it is especially strong). A visit to Sibiu, including the medieval forts, atr museumm Bruckenthal, fort Biertan and the ski resort of Balnearia Ocna Sibiului. It is possible to stop off at a local shopping centre to stock-up on supplies if needed. Day 2 Start the day by visiting Castle Bran, which was constructed by the habitants of Brasov in 1337, to defend the city from attack. In 1922 Queen Maria transformed it into her main residence. It is possible to stop here at the souvenir market. Next, a trip to Sinaia, which is also known as the pearl of the Carpatos. Here you can visit the famous Castle Peles, one the most beautiful Royal residences in Europe. It was constructed by King Carlos 1st between 1875-1883. Today it is an Art museum , with an exceptional collection of arms and period furniture. After a relaxed lunch, it would be worth visiting Brasov city, the old part of town was constructed in X111, it´s medieval style is well preserved. Back to the Cabin. Day 3 Trip to the glacier lake Balea.Before setting of it would be orth visiting the Etnografic memorial museum, Badea Cartan. In the summer you can drive 2040m and from there follow the road to Transfagarasan to Lake Vidraru, during the winter period it is only possible to reach by cable car. There is a small souvenir market for those who are interested. Back to the cabin. Day 4 The route to Sihisoara, passes through some of the more rustic villages of Transilvania. Once you are in the medieval city, it is possible to have lunch at the Dracula restaurant. Back to the cabin. Day 5 Hillwalking at Negoiu, 2534m, which can be climbed from the cabin, passing through the marbol quarry and taking between 4-5 hours. The natural park can be found in the same mountain ´´Golul Alpin al muntiilor fargas´´, it´s a great chance to see plenty of wildlife. Day 6 A visit to Paltins, which is 35km outside of Sibiu, in the mountains of Cindrel, where the highest ski station can be (founded in the last decade of XV). The snow conditions are perfect for approximately 5-6 months of the year. Palatins is a fantastic tourist destination, for those who enjoy winter sports. It is also possible to visit some of the surrounding villages, such as Sibiel, where some of the best museums can be found, such as the glass icons by Gura Raului and other exhibitions. Day 7 Valea Avrig is a great place to visit, either hillwalking or on horseback. It is possible to visit the Baroque style Bruckenthal Palace in the summer. It was constructed in 1770, with beautiful gardens and an Evangelical church , which was built in the X111 century. NOTES The itineries can be varied depending on the date of arrival, timetables etc. The museums are generally closed on mondays. Castle Peles(Sinaia) is also closed on tuesdays and during November. The Black Cathedral(Brasov) is closed to viitors on sundays. HOW TO GET THERE. (COMO LLEGAR) The nearest airports to Cabana Marina are Sibiu, Cluj and Bucarest. They are situated on the main nation highway E68, next to Sibiu and Brasov, it is necessary to drive up the Porumbacu de Jos road towards Peak Negoiu of Mount Fagaras.
