Description of objectVilla Oprtalj is located in a picturesque little town in the north western part of Istria, sited on the crest of a hill with spectacular views. Oprtalj is known back from the 12th century as an urban residence of feudal lords. The settlement has conserved its medieval disposition with smaller squares and alleys. Beside St. George's Church dating from the 15th century there are other churches and chapels with well preserved fresks from medieval masters. In this area lies also Zrenj, well known in past times for its excellent forgers and carvers, and the thermal resort of St. Stephan, famous for its mineral waters spring. The region is world known for truffles. The “Black Truffle Fair“ in the summer and the “Days of Truffle“ in autumn are organized to honour these pearl of our subsoil.Villa Oprtalj was built at the end of the 19. century, as a landlords residence. After turbulent times and governance changes, for some time it was used as a guest house for lords traveling from Trieste or Rijeka but fell into oblivion after the 2nd World War. The reconstruction started in 2006. Now Villa Oprtalj offers accommodation for 12 people in 6 elegantly setted bedrooms. Spacious double beds, LCD TV with satellite connection, safety deposit boxes as well as bathrooms with bathtub or shower are features of each room. Amazing views of Oprtalj and the surrounding area are highlights of each room. Beside the outdoor pool (10 X 4m) and the solarium area, the indoor wellness and fitness area is ideal to relax and regenerate your body and soul. The finnish sauna, steam bath and whirlpool, as well as the tapis roulant, stepper and bench with weights offer plenty opportunity for fitness. The marvelous view of the surrounding hills through the large windows provide a special atmosphere. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped and offers a spacious area along with the large dining and living room. Outside the outdoor barbecue and the tavern with a massive wood table is ideal for evenings near the fire place or celebrations and family gatherings. It was first mentioned in 1115. In the Middle Ages it was a center of trade with various feudal masters and it belonged to the church.From the beginning of 19th century, it was under the rule of France, Austria und Italy respectively. By the new territorial organization of the Republic of Croatia it got the status of a municipality in 1993. The municipality of Oprtalj covers an area of 70 square kilometers. With its 1100 inhabitants it is one of the most scarcely populated municipalities in the Istrian county. Mild Mediterranean climate, sunny hill slopes and its high plateau give favorable conditions for growing wine, olives and fruit, as well as for cattle breeding. In the woods there is a wealth of various mushrooms including tartuf (truffle) which is well known both for its excellent taste and as an aphrodisiac. The region is relatively rich with plants and animals and is a very good hunting area. Troughout the centuries the church has preserved for postrity an invaluable art treasure. In about twenty churches in the region a sacral artistic treasure is faithfully preserved and each church is a story of the history and the life of the region and its people.
