In the Eifel you can also see the so called "Eifelmaare." These are huge lakes which were volcanoes that filled with water. One of these is the Moselberg, about 7 miles away from Eisenschmitt.
Bergfeld Castle is an old hunting resort in Eisenschmitt which has also been visited by its royal embarrassment emperor William II.
n medieval times the Eifel was pretty much a battleground, that`s why you can see plenty of castles there. A very impressive one is in Manderscheid, less than 7 miles away from Eisenschmitt.
Also to be seen, are the fossils from the approximately 45 million years old Eckfelder maar, most importantly the ”famous Eckfelder ancient horse” and the ”world´s oldest honeybee!”
The former capitol of the Roman reigned Germanic territory under the reign of emperors like Diocletian and Constantine the Great is only 30 miles away and offers a lot of Roman history - for example the porta negra, the black gate.
