Description of objectIn the hearth of the green valley of Garfagnana, in an old farm, for a holiday close to nature and its flavours. The farm, family manned, offers facilities for disabled, playground, swimming pool, parking, typical home products, farmstocks presence.English and French spoken. Location of objectThe farm is a family owned business, in the heart of Garfagnana, in the Tuscan province of Lucca, 400 m above the sea level, sorrounded by chestnuts and acacia woods, with a wonderful sight on the Apuan Alps and its Omo Morto (Dead Man) chain. Located some hundreds metres far from Monte Alfonso fortress and less than 2 miles from the medieval town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, all along the valley capital. The climate is almost continental, mitigated by the Tirrenian Sea vicinity. Its position between the high chains of Apuan Alps and Appennines and the sea vicinity grant a constant ventilation that mitigates the muggy in the summer and the freezing cold in the winter, when the snow often covers the mountains. The farm was fully operational from its building, around the first half of 1800, until the seventies; then the farming has been continued in amateur form, not for business or living. Nowadays there are several farm animals in their pen, approachable on demand, and some beehives. At the end of the nineties, united all the farm under an exclusive ownership, started the renovation of the house, derelict at that time. Today are available 5 double bedrooms, all with private bathrooms, and with some common premises as large terrace, a swimming pool of 60 sq.m.,a bread/pizza oven, a playground for children and a parking. The property is rented as a whole unit with private pool. The renovation has respected and maintained the ancient and rural style of the house, bringing out the stones in the bearing walls and the wood in the roof. Frames and furnitures reflect this style too and, going inside, it seems to leap back some tens of years. At this cultural and architectural heritage recovery, an offer of up to date devices has been coupled, useful to a comfortable and peaceful holiday for adults (domestic appliances, guide to local services and touristic destinations) and to the amusement of children and teenagers (swimming pool, international satellite TV, playground, guide to local entertainments). The farm is a family owned business, marked by a particoular care, liking and hospitality to visitors, operational all year around. Town: Italy, Garfagnana, Castelnuovo di GarfagnanaCastelnuovo di Garfagnana is the capital and the heart of the green Garfagnana, situated in the northern part of the Serchio river valley, sorrounded between the spurs of the Apuan Alps and Appennins,30 miles far from Lucca. The original structure of the Castle dates back to the 11th century and then the fortress developed until in 14th century the ring of the defensive walls was enlarged and reached the highest point of its development. Some poets, as Ludovico Ariosto (1522-1525) and Fulvio Testi (1640-1642) were its governors. The Castle presents itself substantially renaissance being the result of continuous adequate restorations throught many centuries. The Cathedral is located inside the walls and is dedicated to SS Peter and Paul; it dates back to the 10 century but was rebuilt on an ancient Roman church at the beginning of the 16 century. It has valuable works as the Piece of S. Joseph, a Della Robbia school terracotta, a wooden cross of the 15 century called The Black Christ, a Ghirlandaio's painting Madonna with Saints, a Civitali's workshop marble frame and some paintings of the 17 century. The Monte Alfonso Fortress is just out of the town, built at the end of the 15 century in opposition to the near Castiglione castle and to offer a safe shelter to citizens in case of enemy attack and siege. It has a boundary long more than 1 km,7 bastions and 7 buildings inside. A very nice walkway is available all around the fortress. The Convent of S. Joseph was begun in 1632 and retains the funeral monument of the Duke Alfonso II of Modena who abandoned the throne to enter the Capucins order in 1628 and here died in 1644. The Archeological Museum offers a widespread evidence from the Upper Serchio river Valley, particularly related to the Mesolitic and the Iron Age, showing finds of Ligurian Apuan people from the 4th century BC until the Romans occupation.
