As the house is used by ourselves on weekends and holidays, it is furnished tastefully and cosily. A sunny garden with a grill and a small swimming pool offer a nice view of the sunsets over the wooded hills of the «Montagne Noire». In front of the door step you may enjoy the tranquility of nature in the mild mediterranean climate, you may undertake beautiful walks and extensive cycling tours. The idyllic and interesting surroundings are inviting you to excursions and sightseeing, The castle of Carcasonne and the beaches of the Mediterranean close to Narbonne are approachable within less than an hour by car. And on the way, if the weather permits it, you will be rewarded with the most breath-taking views of the fascinating mountain chain of the Pyrenees.

The little, peaceful village of Cassagnoles is to be found where the mediterranean 'Garrigue' region with its beautiful vineyards changes to wide oak- and chestnut woods. Approximately 80 inhabitants live in Cassagnoles, far away from the busy streets, in the wildlife park «Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc» in the south-west of the «Departement Herault». Many walking trails lead through the area. You may also visit the bee museum «Musée de l'abeille», where the life of bees and the production of honey are explained. Though Cassagnoles offers neither shops nor restaurants, in the 4km distant Ferrals les Montagnes there is a small super market, a restaurant and a typical farmers’ market in summer. The next larger towns Caunes, Rieux, Homps and Olonzac with shopping facilities are about 20km away. The famous medieval town of Carcassonne with its historical fortress is 40km away.

Our house is situated in the Minervois countryside, stretching from the southern slopes of the low mountain range «Montagne Noire» to the river Aude and the Canal du Midi in the Languedoc plain. Through the influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea, the region enjoys a mild climate. The red wines of the Minervois have got the status «Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée». The delightful Mediterrean heath in the hills is called «Garrigue». The limestone landscape near Cassagnoles is dominated by worth seeing gorges. Numerous prehistoric caves, roman churches and charming villages can be visited. The area takes its name from the main village Minerve, a former stronghold of the Cathars.
