Landmark of the city is the Fortress Marienberg, which rises on a vineyard hill, 110m over the Main River. From there a magnificient view is offered over the old part of the city and the adjacent quarters laying beyond the river. The Residenzcity on the Main River owes its world fame to two ingenious artists: the sculptor Tilmann Riemenschneider and the building master Balthasar Neumann. It is because of his work that until today the city maintains its baroque buildings. Bordered by the Spessart mountains in the west, the Rhön and south Thuringia in the north, the Steigerwald in the east as as the Taubertal in the south. The Frankonian wine country, tourism and economical centre as well. There where the Main River forms a triangle (and then following a square) you find the most prosperous area of wine growing in lower Frankonia The impressive characterization of 'Germany touristic equator' underlines both, favorable climatic conditions and the traffic-favorable situation. Upon leaving the Würzburg centre, the wine country offers you an infinite wealth of art- and culture history. Also museum friends will be fully satisfies in the Frankonian wine country. Würzburg is marked by its gorgeous baroque, with its Emperor hall located in the Prince Bishops Residenz, and the annual baroque celebration, reminiscent to the past. The Frankonians are extremely proud of their wines. The bottle a 'bocksbeutel', short and bulgy can only contain Frankonian wine and is well known all over the world. At the traffic signal turn left onto B19 towards Würzburg. You exit B19 (after approx. 4 km) at the exit Marktheidenfeld/Fulda. From there you continue towards Arnstein/Versbach. After the underpass you are on Versbacher Straße. From the underpass count 9 traffic signals, at the 9th turn to the right. Now you are on Steigstraße. Continue driving straight, up the hill until you reach a 'Y' in the road. Here you bear to the right (Maidbronner Weg). Take the first right onto Goldbergstraße. From Nürnberg (A3): Exit the Autobahn at Würzburg/Rottendorf towards Würzburg. At the first traffic signal (approx. 10 km) go straight under the overpass towards Versbach/Arnstein. Now you are on Versbacher Straße. From there on count 9 traffic signals, at the 9th turn to the right. Now you are on Steigstraße. Continue driving straight, up the hill until you reach a 'Y' in the road. Here you bear to the right (Maidbronner Weg). Take the first right onto Goldbergstraße. From Hannover (A7) or Bayreuth (A73): You exit the Autobahn at Würzburg/Estenfeld heading towards Würzburg. You will now be on a 2 lane road (B19 - approx. 7 km). At the 'Y' bear right towards Würzburg. Then take an imediate right (before the traffic signal) towards Versbach/Arnstein. Now you are on Versbacher Straße. From there on count 9 traffic signals, at the 9th turn to the right. Now you are on Steigstraße. Continue driving straight, up the hill until you reach a 'Y' in the road. Here you bear to the right (Maidbronner Weg). Take the first right onto Goldbergstraße. From the main train station: To reach us take Bus 12 to Versbach, found to the right of the main train station. Exit the bus at the final stop called Brunnenstraße. Get off the Bus and turn to the right into Brunnenstraße. Take your first left onto Adam-Güthleinstraße and the your second left onto Goldbergstraße. It is easier to reach us by taxi (approx. 12 Euro) |
