It is approximately 12km east of the centre of Alanya. The complex is only 20 meters from the beach and will always have totally uninterrupted sea views. The grounds of the complex have a 65m2 swimming pool with children’s pool surrounded by a sun terrace. To the rear of the complex there is a decorative garden with a water feature. The grounds of the complex are elegantly landscaped with a selection of tropical trees and plants. There is a dolmus (bus) stop located directly outside the complex with services approximately every 15 minutes to and from Alanya until 12:30am. This service costs 2ytl (¤1). There are three mini-markets located within 30 meters of the complex and a selection of restaurants and bars close by. Mahmutlar is a small, developing resort with wide tree-lined boulevards, excellent restaurants, bars and beaches. There are many beach cafés where sunbeds and umbrellas may be hired. The whole atmosphere is laid back in a typically Turkish way. The night life is similarly low-key but you will find a varied selection of bars and restaurants within a few hundred metres of the apartment. The local market is held every Saturday and Tuesday. Here you can buy an amazing variety of superb local produce at a fraction of the UK cost as well as the obligatory designer clothing. Location The resort town of Alanya is situated in a spectacular location. From the North the Taurus Mountains sweep down to the sea, which is bordered by miles of sandy beaches. Near the centre of town a huge rock juts out into the sea. The rock is home to some of the town's oldest homes, which are surrounded by old castle walls, providing one of the best examples of Alanya's rich history. Getting There Alanya is approximately two hours drive from the newly developed Antalya airport and is also within easy reach of several other historic towns and sites. Antalya airport is served by several European charter airlines, and by nationsal airlines Turkish Airlines and Turkish Cyprus Airlines and is easily accessible to European visitors. Flights can cost as little as ¤75 / £50 during the low seasons, but can still be found for under ¤375 / £250 during peak season. GAZIPASA AIRPORT IS OPENING VERY SOON & WILL TAKE ONLY 15 MINS TO THE APARTMENT History Alanya's history stretches back hundreds of years. Its situation, near fertile coastland, a natural harbour and defensive mountains, made it an ideal location for settlement. For many years however, the area was known for the pirates who inhabited the waters and towns in the region; it is still possible to visit one of the caves where the Pirates kept their prisoners. Eventually the Pirates were displaced by the Romans as their empire expanded into Anatolia (Asia Minor). It was during the Roman dominance of the region that the town was said to have been visited by Queen Cleopatra after she received it as a gift from her lover Antonius. It was not until much later though, that the walled citadel and castle which now stands overlooking the town's harbour was built. This was built in around 1226 after Alanya had been conquered by Sultan Aladdin Keykubat. He named the town Alaiye, which means Aladdin's city (the name Alanya only came about after Ataturk renamed it in 1934). Most of the town's surviving historical structures are from this period, although the region is littered with many monuments dating back over one thousand years or more. Food and Drink There is no shortage of good places to eat in Alanya. There are restaurants and cafes serving food from every corner of the globe offering the convenience and choice you enjoy at home. However, there are also plenty of Turkish restaurants to choose from where one can sample great Turkish food. Or, if you want something really special you could try one of the restaurants overlooking the city, where you can enjoy spectacular views. Perhaps one of the best things about all this choice is that wherever you choose to go you will find that the prices are reasonable and that the service is friendly. Leisure Pursuits When it comes to entertainment there is something in Alanya for everyone to enjoy, from daytime activities like jet skiing or parasailing, water parks and shopping, to a wealth of bars and nightclubs in the evenings and on through the night. Conveniently most services are available in either Euros or Lira, and the city centre and beaches are remarkably safe. Alanya is also home to some special events like the annual Opera festival where you can enjoy seeing great operas performed under the stars in a historical setting.
