Description of objectEnfield is the best kept secret in London. Half an hour from the centre, yet just minutes drive from farmland, this historic market town on the edge of the capital has been home to poets and princesses and is the jewel of the commuter belt.
The Hermitage apartment is a ground floor garden studio in a leafy street five minutes walk from the railway station with its regular half hour service to central London and the Eurostar link to the continent. It is also a 10 minute drive, through farmland, to the M25 motorway for fast access to Stansted, Luton and Heathrow airports and the links to Gatwick, Dover and the rest of the UK.
Whilst the railways link directly to the City and the tube, and there are buses in Enfield Town, you may alsp pick up the Piccadilly Line to the West End and Heathrow from Oakwood Station, only 10 minutes drive from the studio.
The flat itself is a little gem, updated and renovated in 2009. A light and airy living room with a modern kitchen area, boasts dining for 4 people and a comfy sofa that easilly converts into a second bed. The flat has flat screen TV. The dinky little bedroom leads off the main room and there is a smart bathroom with bath and shower above and wc.
The plus, in summer, are the gardens that wrap around the apartment, lawn and flower beds and an outside dining area for breakfasting al fresco.
You may park outside the house.
The Hermitage is a quiet hideaway in a peaceful street - and ideal for couples or friends looking for a sleepy haven away from the bustle of the city - which is always reachable at any time.
Location of objectIn a leafy street in the old royal hunting grounds, close to public transport links to central London. The studio proves the perfect base for enjoying London and England. With the theatres, museums and shops of the West End just a tube or train ride away, and all of the shopping and dining options of the town 10 minutes walk from your front door. You do not even have to walk down into the town. Windmill Hill (at the top of the road) has a cluster of varied options from one of the best traditional fish and chips restaurants in north London, to tapas bars and pub grub.
There are golf clubs near by, swimming pools in Enfield and nearby Southgate, and plenty of equestrian centres to explore the countryside on horseback. Enfield Football Club is a bus ride away, watch cricket in the summer and enjoy the local theatres and cinemas.
Town: Great Britain and Northern Ireland, London, Enfield ChaceEnfield is a true undiscovered treat on the green border of London itself. This old market town was childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I. James I went hunting here along the Royal Chace, and many of the woods of fields of the great estates remain as they were then to this very day. Go walking amongst bluebells in Whitwebbs Park and the grounds of the West Lodge, wander through the estate of historic Forty Hall with one of the oldest cedar trees in England and its tear-jerking pet cemetary hidden by the lake, or stroll by the New River, the brainchild of the 'English Riquet' Myddleton, past the homes of Charles and Mary Lamb in Gentlemen's Row. John Keats and Boris Karloff went to school here and Thomas Hardy was married in the Parish Church in the market place. The market has been held here every week since the days of the Stuarts, and the cobbled square and striped awnings continue to thrive just a few yards away from the old royal Palace Gardens - now a bustling shopping centre with Marks & Spencer, H&M, Waitrose, Next, Top Shop and many of Britain's best known retailers. Enfield is home to many great traditional pubs and inns, where you may still down a pint of ale in haunts of princes and highwayment, kings and tinkers. Cross Hilly Fields to the Rose and Crown, raise a glass in The Stag by the Town or simply take a picnic to enjoy in the many parks an easy stroll from the house.
