Built by Doria in the XII century and appointed in the past impregnable fortress, the castle gives the name to the country, in any way the name Castelsardo is the XVIII century: the borough indeed was called `Castelgenovese' at the time of the domination of Doria and `Castellaragonese' at the time of the spanish domination. To announce to even it characteristic historical center who maintains all today a detail aspect with his narrow lanes and a stone pavement. Castelsardo is seat of the cathedral of S.Antonio Abbate and the Church of S.Maria. Particularly important for Castelsardo, but even for all the northern coast of Sardinia the harbour with the Frigiano tower. Not far away from Castelsardo is Domus de Janas and the drawn Elephant Rock designed from the wind in an enormous block of `trachite'.
