Description of objectOur estate consists of olive orchards, that covers about 10 hectares (over 22 acres), and is centered around an old stone farmhouse dating back to 1850 and its attached rural buildings. The complex has been restructured into nine apartments , one, two and three-room apartments able to accommodate from 2 to 7 people with a large grassy area in front for relaxing and playing. Each apartment have a well-equipped mini-kitchen and dining area, an elegantly appointed bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, and a porch covered with open chestnut beams and terra cotta tiles that offers another table and chairs for outdoor dining. The carefully chosen furnishings, the warmly colored and welcoming fabrics, the antique furniture and elegant wrought iron finishings together make the Farmhouse Arlena agritourism complex one of superior level that remains respectful of its country style.A 150-meter-long path cuts through the orchard and leads you directly to the quiet of the lake. There you will be welcomed by a stretch of lawn and beach equipped for bathing, where your privacy is assured by the impenetrability of the adjacent reeds. The sandy shore gradually declines into the lake, lending to a shallow area that is well-suited for swimming, even for small children. A splendid “ontano” (alder), a typical lake tree, sinks its roots directly into the shore and acts as a frame for this suggestive corner of the lake. Canoe outings along the reeds will allow you to bird watch the many species found on the lake, while sun worshipers can enjoy laying in the sun on the beach, or directly on the water on one of our “Malibu” floating beds. Upon request, we can organize informal meals directly on the beach. Homemade jams and breakfast sweets will cheer your stay. We also sell local fruit, oil and wine. Location of objectYou cannot stay in Bolsena without making trips to the surrounding areas. Its location allows you to take day trips to the provinces of Viterbo, Siena, Perugia, Terni, as well as, obviously, the cities of Rome and Florence.Just 20 km. away is Orvieto and its Cathedral; an incomparable and unique jewel of Gothic art, the Well of St. Patrizio, the Etruscan Necropolis, and a number of Museums. A short distance away you will also find the towns of Todi, Deruta, Assisi and Gubbio. On the way to Terni you can easily visit Narni, Spoleto and Foligno. Crossing the Tuscan border, just past Acquapendente, you can visit the towns of Val d’Orcia, S. Quirico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza and finally Siena. The visit to Civita di Bagnoregio (10 km from Bolsena) is very suggestive with its medieval town and the extraordinary view of the \\\'calanchi\\\' (eroded cliffs). Of great interest in Montefiascone (10 km from our farm) are the Romanesque church of St. Flaviano and the church of St. Margherita that overlooks the city. From Montefiascone you can reach Viterbo, capital of the province, where you shouldn’t miss the chance to visit the medieval district, the Sanctuary of St. Rosa, and the Papal Museums and Palace - a splendid building and symbol of the city which hosted the first and longest conclave (election process for choosing the pope) in the history of the Catholic Church. Near Viterbo are the world-famous princely residences of Bagnaia and Caprarola; magnificent abodes built in the second half of the 16th century by the era’s most important architects to glorify the power of families such as the Orsini and the Farnese. In the direction of La Quercia you will find the Sanctuary of the \\\'Madonna di La Quercia\\\', built by Giuliano and Anthony Sangallo, whose renaissance façade has three portals that house three lunettes of Andrea della Robbia (1507). Also worthy of mention are the Park of the Monsters of Bomarzo, stone sculptures made at the end of the XVI century by Vicino Orsini, the Doria Pamphilj Palace in St. Martino al Cimino, the ancient town of Vitorchiano. Of particular interest amongst the many cultural events offered is the summer season of Ferento’s Roman Theatre. For those who want to enjoy the health and relaxation offered by thermal waters there are the natural spas of Viterbo, San Casciano dei Bagni, Bagno Vignoni and Saturnia just a few minutes by car from the farm. There are numerous wine and gastronomic initiatives throughout the province of Viterbo including the Est!Est!!Est!!! winery, the Falesco and Aleatico vineyards and above all extra-virgin olive oil. ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCURSIONS The Etruscan part of Viterbo is rich with ruins of the past. The Necropolis and the National Etruscan Museum in Tarquinia, the Necropolis and Romanesque Churches of San Pietro and Santa Maria Maggiore in Tuscania, the Necropolis of Pianezze in Grotte di Castro, the Necropolis of Norchia in Vetralla, the Necropolis, the Castle and the Bridge of the Abbey in Vulci. Worth mentioning is the recent reopening of the archaeological and nature park of Vulci; 130 hectares (about 320 acres) of Etruscan and Roman ruins and protected species located between Montalto of Castro and Canino, very near a World Wildlife Fund Oasis. Also in Tuscany is the Necropolis of Sovana, important for the grave of Ildebrando. SPORT Sports you can practice on the Farm: Soccer, canoeing, mountain bike, ping-pong and sailing (A 470 Olympic Class sailboat with main, jib and spinnaker is available for rent) Outside the farm in Bolsena: school for water skiing (Figure, Wakeboard, Air Chair, Slalom, Banana Boat, and Parasailing), sailing club, tennis and horseback riding. Golf can be played at Tarquinia (9 holes) and Sutri (18 holes). NATURE PARKS Just on the other side of the SS Cassia road from the farm is the wooded area and nature park of Turona. Enthusiasts can spend time picking mushrooms (\\\'porcini\\\', \\\'galletti\\\' and \\\'famigliola\\\') and wild asparagus, the latter of which are particularly abundant. Inside the park there is a ring shaped itinerary that starts from a glade near a small country church, and works its way through the woods touching upon different areas of archaeological and natural interest (Etruscan and Roman digs of Poggio Moscini). A short distance from the farm, in the township of Acquapendente, you will find the nature park of Monte Rufeno, crossed by the river Paglia, with numerous nature walks and, 2 km from Torre Alfina, the Museo del Fiore museum. Also a short distance from Bolsena, in the town of Farnese, you will find the nature park of Selva dell\\\'Amone, characterized by the presence of enormous lava stones that, at times, assume impressively real amphitheater-like conformations. Town: Italy, Bolsena lake, BolsenaTHE TOWN OF BOLSENAIts origins date back to the III century BC when it was populated by inhabitants who escaped from the destruction of Velzna, one of the most important Etruscan cities, destroyed by the Romans in 264 BC. Bolsena inherited its name from Velzna, which classic sources have handed down to us in the Latin form Volsinii. In 1263 an event of enormous consequences marked the history of Bolsena. In the Basilica, dedicated to Saints George and Cristina, at the moment of elevation during a mass celebrated by the Bohemian priest Pietro da Praga, drops of blood fell from the host onto the linen altar cloth and marble altar; both objects are still kept in the chapel of the Miracle of the Church of Saint Cristina, erected in the XI century. That Eucharistic miracle, whose fame went beyond the peninsula’s borders, lead Pope Urbano IV to institute throughout the Catholic world the festivity of Corpus Domini. Still today, on June 18, the festivity is remembered with a solemn procession that snakes its way through the city’s streets which are adorned by a continuous carpet of flowers of truly unique artistic style. The evening of July 23 and the morning of July 24, Bolsena celebrates Saint Cristina, its Patron and martyr, with the representation of the Mysteries: Living pictures enacted on wood stages situated in the most important squares of Bolsena representing the martyrdom the Saint suffered. Under the hill adjacent to the Collegiate Church and Chapel of the Miracle complex lie catacombs whose origins are traced back to the II and III centuries b.c., continuing up to the fifth century a.d. The Fortress (La Rocca), currently known as the Monaldeschi castle, was erected by the people of Orvieto during the XII-XIV century, and dominates the urban center of Bolsena. During the Middle Ages it was the defensive outpost of the urban center and its hinterland. It’s possible to visit the castle which also houses an interesting museum concerning the lake of Bolsena and archaeological findings from the region. Along the road to Orvieto is a 4km-long stretch of Etruscan city walls which contain the fascinating remains of many monuments.
