Description of objectThis traditional old style cottage boasts all the comforts of modern living but without compromising its historic features. While the recent refurbishments mean you’ll enjoy a reasonably good standard of living, you’ll still feel part of the property that has served generations for many years. Staying in an authentic old Bled villa, within the first coastal zone (very rare) of one of worlds most breathtaking lakes, is a truly unique experience.Staying at the Lake Bled Cottage you can enjoy all that Bled with it's surroundings has to offer in the way of organised outdoor activities, sporting events and musical entertainment, yet stay at a nicely remoted area from the trappings of tourism when relaxing, perhaps with a glass of beer or wine, on the terrace or the wooden balcony with one of the most stunning views in Bled; simply taking in views of Lake Bled, and watching the day turning into night with beautyfull backgrounds. Lake Bled is close enough to walk to (150 meters) if you fancy a swim or a boat ride to the island and the spectacular Vintgar Gorge with its cliff-hugging wooden walkways and small waterfalls, can be reached on footpaths starting just yards from the cottage. Location of objectLake Bled can be reached from several airports, Ljubljana being the nearest and most commonly used by guests coming to this area. After your (hopefully) short flight, you can hire a car or take a taxi (both can be organized by us) from the airport and the drive to the house, which takes about 40 minutes. It’s a straightforward journey and before you know it, you’ll have unpacked your luggage and be ready to enjoy a refreshing glass of wine on the balcony overlooking one of the many breathtaking views of Lake Bled and the mountains.Town: Slovenia, SLO Oberkrein, BledBled is one of Europe's top tourist destinations, but even at the height of summer has an almost sleepy feel to it. Bled is a fairly small town offering a host of facilities, adventure trips and excursions and, in its own laid back fashion, hosts annual music festivals and other national and international competitions. For instance, in august 2011 it will play host to the World Rowing Championships.Lake Bled is fed by thermal waters and can reach a very pleasant 24°C by September. There are two formal swimming areas, one at the eastern end of the lake (which is free) and the other sited at the foot of the castle crag. The latter has changing rooms, water slides, a bar and snack restaurant. Visit the island by hired rowing boat or be ferried in style by Pletna boat. Swimming in Lake Bohinj, a 40minute drive away, is less restricted than Lake Bled. If you’re brave enough to dip more than a big toe in the water, you can take an invigorating swim from any of the gravel beaches. The mountain backdrops are stunning and will take your breath away just as effectively as the cold water. If you prefer to stay on top of the water board the lake cruiser or hire a canadian style canoe. The Julian Alps are criss-crossed with paths and attract both ramblers and serious mountaineers. Many paths are way-marked so it is easy to find your own routes. Guides are available to escort you on longer treks and up the challenging Triglav - at 2864m - the tallest mountain in Slovenia. Slovenia has a reputation for winter sports and the area around Bled has numerous downhill ski runs, cross country ski circuits, a number of ice skating rinks and the largest ski-jump in the world. Although most of the summer attractions are curtailed by the low winter temperatures and snow cover, it is still possible to go trekking on Icelandic ponies and experience the thrill of dog sledding - both during the winter. The ski fields around Bled are most suited to intermediate skiers, however there are enough easy runs for beginners to progress and a few black runs to test the more advanced skiers. Off-piste skiing is possible but the terrain is too exposed to attempt without a guide. Narrow gorges with the noisy voice of the waterfalls add to the typical picture of the Alpine world, the quiet lakes of the valleys reflect the blue sky, and in the lakes the dark green woods from extensive plains, the cleared woodland of the mountain pastures and the flowers of colourful meadows can also see its reflection.The kingdom of the mythological Goldenhorn, which tends a flock of chamois amongst the white edelweiss flowers, is nowadays a national protected area of the Triglav national park with Mount Triglav (2864 m), the symbol of the Slovenian nation. On the slopes of the Karavanke Mountains, the mountain Golica, strewn with daffodils, and the ancient Ajdna invite you in the spring, on the plateau Velika Planina there are cows pasturing just like in former times, in Dov¸an Gorge near Tr¸ic you can visit the well-known archaeological site of stones from the Permic Period, whereas the Smith's Museum in Kropa exhibits the remains of smith's trade. Of course, you cannot leave Gorenjska without having visited its famous tourist places: Kranj with a picturesque old town part on the pier above the confluence of the Sava and Kokra rivers, ¦kofja Loka with its renowned castle, Kranjska Gora,Radovljica, and Kamnik, which is close to the Arboretum Volcji Potok. And then there is Bled – with an island and church in the middle of the lake. The lake is protected by a steep wall with a castle on the top and in the background the peeks of the Julian Alps can be seen. Bled is the centre of rowing, congress and social events, as well as the starting point for trips to the mountains or skiing places. |
